Title: Guild Wars 2?!
Post by: randomdude5 on May 24, 2013, 09:47:22 PM
Wow, so I've had this game for a while but never really played much. Recently though (around a week ago to be precise!!) I started playing it again cause I was bored, and now I'm an addict! (Still NEWB at it though!)

I was wondering if anyone else from here plays, it would be cool to find people I could add as friends in game and play with and stuff. :D

I love GW2!  I've got an 80 necro at the moment and a ton of alts.  :D  My name on there is Alesium (hard to figure out, huh?).  Feel free to add me.  I'm not on as often as  I used to because I'm working on Anarchy Online, but I'll say hi when I do get on :)

I try not to play too much.  I have more important things to do.

I spend most of my time in WvWvW mode.  So, you won't see me unless you are on the Ehmry Bay server, the Borlis Pass server, or the Anvil Rock server.  If you happen to be on the Borlis Pass or Anvil Rock server, you will hate me....

I haven't been on since November, around when Lost Shores came out. I heard they added some infinite dungeon or something, and a ring as part of a new set of equipment (ascended) to come. What's happened since then?

I got the game within a week of release. I got five level eighties very quickly, and i was on the official forums bragging about it, but someone had already beaten me to getting all professions to eighty.

They have ascended jewelry, they've added some vendors in WvWvW mode (including some WvWvW specific items and consumables), they've done a lot of rebalancing to the game, and they've done a huge overhaul of the achievement system, as well as focusing every few weeks on the "Living Story" (which I don't engage in since I don't like temporary content)

The dungeon you are referring to is Fractals Of The Mists, I believe.

To be honest, I hardly play anymore.  The new matchmaking system makes WvWvW a lot more fun, since we are no longer matched against the same servers every week.  But, there is an unfortunate thing called "real life" which tends to get in the way of my game time.  When I do log on, I usually just do it to rack up a bunch of achievement points or level alts.  I haven't had much time anymore to get into competitive WvWvW

Fractals Of The Mists and ascended jewelry, i remember those. I believe i also remember people saying one of the weekend events, possible The Lost Shores, legendary precursors were dropping a lot. I'm gutted i missed out. I didn't play too much PVP. I'm more of solo-player. I remember people saying that they should split PVE from PVP, and i agree they should. As for prices of legendary precursors, i bet they are now at a more ridiculous price, right?

They eventually had to split PvP in the first Guild Wars, because it was so different from PvE that PvE balancing ruined PvP and if they balanced for PvP then all the PvE players would complain about how so many skills became useless.  They already have some skills balanced differently (mostly in terms of stat scaling) but they really need to get on the ball and just do what they did in Guild Wars Nightfall.  I suspect that they will try to avoid making completely separate PvP and WvWvW versions of skills until it becomes necessary to do so, like it did in the first Guild Wars.

QuoteAs for prices of legendary precursors, i bet they are now at a more ridiculous price, right?

No idea.  Other than doing achievements and WvWvW, I don't really play the game.  I don't care about legendaries.

Ahh!  I used to play Guild Wars, the four expansions like I didn't have a life but now I seem to be too busy I haven't bought the second one.  Very sad, blah!  They need to put more hours in a day.

Yeah.  I doubt I'll ever play Guild Wars 2 as much as I did the first game.  Unfortunately, minor inconveniences such as "life" and "reality" tend to get in the way of my game time.

ERMERGERD! This is totally a topic for me!

Do I play GW2?...

Well.... in the last year ( bought the game like a week after release) I have put in a lil over 2.700 hours...

I have 7 lv 80's, all Classes except necro ( deleted her to make room for my thief)

Right now I'm just kind of working on saving up gold and mats for legionaries.. I'm not going to make one until I see which ones anent is going to release new ones later this year/beginning of 2014.

Currently on Fort Aspenwood. I love to do WvW, but lately I've been doing more pve stuff... farming fro wood and ori nodes, dungeons and SUPER ADVENTURE BOX!

I used to be in very large guild when I was on ET, MAG, and CD but seemed to not find them very friendly. Oh of your on Crystal desert I highly advise not joining the guild Rough Trade [RTGC]... The leader of that guild (who was a drag queen) told me I wasn't trans enough after i decided to leave because I was tired of there really only being gay guys there that are like twice my age. And I still have the 5-6 screen shots if you really desire to his his true side. Keep in kind RTGC is supposed to be the biggest and best LGBT guild on GW2 ... And so you know where I'm coming from I'm bi so I obviously don't mind the lgbt community and I have friends who are drag queens and kings.

The guild I'm currently in is small, however we are always looking for more people and do pretty much anything anyone wants to do, and we're 25 k influence away from  guild bounty missions. The leader is a really nice straight Canadian dude. I have talked to him about glbt stuff and he is fully accepts anyone as long as they aren't rude and does not put up with any derogatory language. I don't know how he feels about people joining that aren't on FA, but if you are and if your interested feel free on giving me a message :)

My anet ID is: PinkFluff.6084

and my toon names are:

Guardian: Precious Pebbles
Mesmer: Little Twin
Ranger: Saria Salad
Warrior: Sharpie Saria
Engi: Tall Twin
Ele: Fierce Twin
Theif: Fluffy Twin   <---- Charr thief LOL

If you wanna chat or have questions feel free to contact me :)

I haven't played in a while, but I keep meaning to get back into this game. I've just experimented with classes so far to see what I like. So far, I've played an Asuran Engineer, a Char Necromancer, and a Sylvari Elementalist. I haven't been on in a while since most of my friends have stopped playing. If I can find a few to play with (and possibly a good guild), I might get back into it. Might also consider a server transfer if anyone knows of a decently sized, mature, casual guild.

I haven't been on in about a month, got bored of it when my guild stopped doing activities and the social aspect fell out of it for me. Then I was more focussed on the terror of confiding in my friends and family and trying to see a therapist XD.

I have 8 Chars: 80 Norn Guardian, 80 Norn Warrior, 80 Sylvari Elementalist, 80 Charr Engineer, 80 Asura Mesmer, 60ish Human Ranger, 40ish Human Necromancer and 40ish Sylvari Thief. Maybe I'll go back to it at some point, but I played a lot in the two months I was on and after playing every class it was getting a bit repetitive XD

Lion's Arch is under attack as we speak!  It is being DESTROYED.

Seriously, though, I haven't been playing much Guild Wars 2.  All of the PvE updates are pretty much the same (mostly zergfest updates that people farm for a week for the new/unique items) and there is an unfortunate thing that I call "real life" which has still been preventing me from spending enough time with the game to actually do much with it.

I still think the biggest thing that is killing Guild Wars 2 is the Living Story.  They botched it, they botched it again, and then they botched the game's main villain, and at this point most people have lost interest.  Living Story (and temporary content updates in general) may have not been the best direction to take this game.  It may have worked if each update actually felt different, and it certainly would be more interesting if we had a villain who was more than somewhat interesting, but at this point in the game it still feels like there were maybe two or three patches that were actually engaging, and everything else has been somewhat entertaining at best.

Lion's Arch really is being destroyed, though.  No shens.  I'm surprised Arenanet had the guts to do something like this.

I have a bunch of characters on the Fort Aspenwood server.

Lvl 80 Charr Warrior, Charrlossus
Lvl 80 Asura Thief, Lotus Thief
Lvl 80 Human Ele, Aeon Mistdoom
and my current favorite at lvl 70 a Slyvari Guardian, Moon Shield

I'm enjoying the new living story at least for leveling purposes. I find it more enjoyable in overflow with less of a zergfest going on. Hopefully the future brings more elder dragons or brings back vanquishing. Need instance maps back.

Someone on YouTube was talking about that.  I don't really care for instanced maps, so much.  They were great for farming, but otherwise I never cared for them.  Some form of vanquishing system would be nice, though.  Actually, there are a ton of things from Guild Wars that I thought should have been in Guild Wars 2.  The biggest mistake Guild Wars 2 made was not being more like the first game.  The second biggest mistake Guild Wars 2 made was putting so much focus on dynamic events and Living Story.

If Guild Wars still had the kind of player population that it did before the Nightfall campaign, I probably would have already quit Guild Wars 2 to go back to the first Guild Wars.  Simply put, Guild Wars is a better game than Guild Wars 2.  Zergfest updates simply are not as interesting as the controlled and tactical gameplay of the first Guild Wars.  Guild Wars 2 feels very unbalanced with its scaling issues for dynamic events and badly designed zergfest updates (the great jungle wurms being an excellent example)

Guild Wars 2 had a ton of potential at launch, and the developers wasted most of it.  I hate to say it, but it is really only the achievement system and the WvWvW updates where the game has made any significant improvement.  Other than some important bug fixes, PvE has not seen any long-standing improvements since launch.  We got champ loot bags, which are nice.  But, there is really nothing engaging going on in PvE that wasn't already going on at launch, with the exception of champ bags and a few cool thingies that guilds can do.

O wow didn't realize how many have posted since I last did xD

Lizzie I'm on FA to :O

I actually have decided to delete and remake my elementalist and thief to asuras. So working on that atm....
I've also lv'd a condition heavy necro to 80 since my last post and is now one of my fav's to play
LIVING STORY O.O

Ok so i love the story line of it. However I do agree that it is taking away from the main story line. My guess is that it's anet's way to ad filler till they get expansions done. I have actually kind of stoppled playing for a bit because a lot of the patches are just total zerg/lagfest that don't really require any skill. So I got bored and focused more on warfacce open beta. I am actually glad to see LA in ruins, I never really liked it to gegin with. I hope when it's rebuilt the totally change it and not just use the same layout as before. The only thing I was really glad about this LA event is the unlimited myster quaggan tonics and tombs of knowledge to help my remaking of my ele and theif.

Yeah.  You can get tomes really easily right now.  Oh wait, you meant tombs of knowledge.

I've been playing more, but only because I keep finding people to help out in PvE.  Tonight it was achievements and map exploration, which is something that is actually really fun to help people with, especially since I hadn't explored all of the map myself.

I recently went back on to GW1 to fiddle around with my 55 monk.  Spamadan still has people, but there is an overall sense of emptiness in the world, particularly in the more remote portions.  I end up finding AFK people in the boondocks, though, so there is still a community playing.  :)

GW2 UPDATE: I'm on Tarnished Coast and joined the guild "Our Sanctuary" [LGBT].  It's a great community with plenty of transgender players. I haven't braved up to joining their voice chat yet, but it's a wonderful, accepting guild.  It's big, too (~400 members).  I highly recommend it.

I might give GW2 another look soon. Right now, I've been sucked into ESO. I'm enjoying that game pretty well, but I find with any MMO that I eventually need a break. It will be nice to see if GW2 does anything for me these days. I remember the world being beautiful. From what I understand, the biggest thing that game screwed up was with the way they operated their cash store causing the game to devolve into pay to win territory.

Quote from: kate on April 20, 2014, 07:25:57 AMWorld PvP on the other hand was a disaster lol. Other guild members got a huge kick out of it, but all i seemed to be doing was running around aimlessly and getting killed. :P

WvWvW mode has seen a ton of improvements since launch.  Unfortunately, the matchmaking system is still just as bad (if not worse) than it used to be.  So, a lot of times you'll be matched against servers significantly better than yours.  So, you'll lose no matter what you do because you will be outnumbered or simply outskilled.

A lot of my desire to play the game has waned, because I spend most of my time in WvWvW mode.

I was having a debate just last week about this with some people in map chat.  Another person started a debate about it, and I agreed with them that it basically doesn't matter what we do because we will still lose.  The commander seemed to think that we just needed better coordination.  I said, it doesn't matter if we fight off a single zerg from a single tower, because it would take all of our players to do that even if they did coordinate.  Meanwhile, the server we were matched against has AT LEAST one zerg of that size on EACH of the four maps, while we can only muster a group of that size on two maps maximum, and only during our peak hours.

It doesn't matter if your guys are worth three of theirs, or four of theirs.  If you can take on four of their guys by yourself, you will still lose when you are outnumbered five to one.  The commander didn't seem to understand this.  A zerg full of bad players is still a zerg.  There comes a point where you won't have enough damage to overcome them regardless of how good your players are, simply based on the fact that they have so many that they can just stand there and autoattack you to death.

Guild Wars 1 is a better game.  Guild Wars 2 basically takes all of the stuff that made the first Guild Wars awesome, and then it.... removes it.  Guild Wars 2 is OK, but I don't have nearly as much fun with it as I did back in Guild Wars Factions.

The only thing Guild Wars 2 did better than the first game is the action combat, and jumping puzzles (which are actually extremely well designed, BTW).  Otherwise, GW2 took a step back from the first game in almost every conceivable way.

I'm almost thinking of going back to play GW1 again.  GW2 tends to feel very repetitive and mechanical, even moreso than other MMO games I've played.
