So we all know the wonders of biotin and its benefits for hair growth. Well im wondering if its normal for biotin to speed up hair growth everywhere? Since i started noticing my hair growing faster, i also noticed that im shaving a lot more now. Example, i can usually go a week without shaving my face before i start getting any noticeable growth...now tho in just 3 days i already have the same growth i get in a week....and its the same for legs, stomach, underarms etc.
So is this normal or am i just taking too much biotin.
Thanks.
Kari.
Its normal and the number 1 reason I stopped taking it! I started growing hair in places I never had hair and darkening and thickening all my little fine hairs.
I've been taking biotin for about a month and noticed the same thing. Also, I have heard others echo the same thing before. I think it's normal. However, I'm taking quite a bit (20,000 mcg a day).
If you are taking a supplement for biotin, it's likely you are getting a lot more than the daily requirements. That's okay because most people don't have results below the 5,000mcg level which is still much higher than the daily requirements. Also, b vitamins are water soluble, so it might not be a bad thing to go over the rda (but I'm no authority so don't quote me on that). So you are likely taking more biotin than whats needed for your body, but most people don't get hair growth results at the rda level.
One weird thing I've noticed about larger doses of biotin is that my nails don't grow as fast. They also seem more weak which sucks for a classical guitar player. It seems contrary to the advertised effects in this regard. Though, my hair is growing faster and I'm grateful for that.

I noticed something similar, in particular in my face. If it turned my hair dark properly, then I could have at least gotten laser, but no such luck. Seeing as I prefer having a very, very light coloured beard as opposed to one that can leave a shadow, I've stopped taking biotin for now.
Well if i wanted to look like a guy, one plus side is that the rather thin patches on my cheeks has filled in enough that i can do a chin strap or full Grisly Adams inspired beard now lol
