Title: Quick question for taller girls
Post by: Kitteh Engimeer on June 06, 2013, 08:58:25 PM
OK! So I'm about 5'10-ish. I've been noticing that for some reason, shorter girls tend to stare more frequently. That doesn't really bother me, but I'm curious - if you're tall, do you also tend to get stares from shorter women? It used to worry me a little, but that was before I noticed a pattern.

Yes.

We tall ladies (5'11" standing here) are unusual for reasons completely independent of our gender. It's normal, especially in situations where tall girls aren't common.

Edit: as tall girls, we can either go with casual/conservative or stylish/formal. Ever see a tall woman in a fancy dress? :)

Every year I go to a conference that is full of ecotoxicologists, many of whom are cis-women and many of whom are tall.  Last November, I was talking with two of them as we walked back to the hotel – one on my right and one on my left.  As we talked, I noticed that both of them were taller than I and I'm 6'2".  God, it was wonderful..... :)

Most women there were dressed professionally and they looked good.  Out of work, many tended to be outdoorsy and almost the classical "amazon type".   Many tended to be less feminine but were still all woman.  As that type fits my personality and as I like the look, that is where I'm going as a woman.  ;D

I have noticed in the PNW that I am of an average (5'10") height.  I don't know if we just grow tall because of the rain, or if it is because we have transplants (mostly California) from other parts of the country.

I'm like 5"10-11 and I don't really get looks from short girls. At least I don't think I do? I really don't pay attention . Now from other tall girls or from guys I get looks normally. But that's a good thing. Just own your model height

I'm 6'1" and my beautiful Nordic spouse is an attractive tall blonde at 6ft even, we were used to the attention and looks we got when we lived in Seattle, but here in California we don't stand out to awful much.

My sister is two years younger than me and is 5'11" so is my oldest daughter....I'm so used to being around tall girls, and now that I finally am one I just don't see an issue with it.

Oh...tall girls can dress nice and be classy, what's with the comments that that's unusual? Granted people on the west coast might be more concerned about their appearance than other parts of the country though.

One of my three natal daughters is 5' 10"; another is 6' 0" tall and still growing; the third is about 5' 5" (but she was a fraternal twin).  They all like to wear heels, and never seemed the least bit out of place.

Statistically, the 95th percentile for American womens height is about 5' 9" as I recall.  This means on 5% of American women are taller than that, 1 out of 20.

I'm 6'0" and have given a LOT of thought to the height question. I just now wrote down a list of all the women I know who are in the same height range as me and came up with 10 who are at least 5'11", with a couple around 6'2" (and one of those gals has a sister who's even taller, though I've never met her).

Once you start thinking about celebrities, well Maria Sharapova - who's been ranked No.1 for hotness in women's tennis for years now - is 6'2" ... and other sexy six-footers include Elle 'the Body' Macpherson, Uma Thurman, Brooke Shields, Famke Janssen, a ton of models like the Vicoria's Secret angel Karlie Kloss and lots of women who've hung out with Mick Jagger, including his ex-wife Jerry Hall and his current partner L'Wren Scott who's 6'4", I think. Taylor Swift is around 5'11" too, as is supermodel and Mrs Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen.

And if you want some TS inspiration, the stunning Andrej Pejic is 6'2" and s/he (either pronoun is acceptable to AP) is currently one of the top female models in the world.

So it's always possible that if short girls stop and stare, it could just be because they're jealous!  ;)

I could add Geena Davis and Brigitte Neilsen.  And Anne Coulter.

Natalia Bush, Amelia Vega, Ana Ivanovic, Kerri Walsh (6' 3"), Michelle Norkett (6' 3"), Candace Parker (6' 4"), Megumi Kawamura (6' 4"), Gabrielle Reece (6' 4"), Lauren Jackson (6' 5").

I always thought Grace Jones was 6' tall, but I guess not.

Lameka Weeks (6' 2") started a clothing line called "Height Goddess"

And please bear in mind that being taller is better for Your safety :) Sure, You might stand out, but the possible attacker will have to consider that he might be facing harder resistance from someone, who is just as tall or even taller!

Ringing in at 6'2" myself, I've somewhat gotten use to people male and female staring at me  :)  I just smile and go about my business

Sure, sometimes people are snarky and rude making fun of me and calling me names like 'Horsey girl' and some other names that I will not mention

I generally don't let it bother me, I only remember one time when a group of four girls were too obnoxious and following me about so I turned around, leaned over in their faces and asked "Can I help you? Are you okay? Is there a problem?"

I have to admit, I loved their expressions of shock and kind of enjoyed watching them go quiet and hurridly walk away

I'm about 6'1" and when I first started to transition I wished I could be about 2 - 3" shorter. Now I don't worry about it. If I get any curious looks I give them my best smile, straighten up, shoulders back and keep going. Usually I get a nice smile back.

I also love wearing heels, the view is fantastic when I have them on.

6' tall here and zero weird looks or stares from shorter cis-females. I think it also depends on your location. Where I live there are plenty of cis-females the same height. Now if I were to move to somewhere else, maybe not so much.

I just figure I'm a 5'10" (6' in heels) blonde woman, people are going to look.  So, I just own it: Wear heels if I feel like.  Enjoy looking eye to eye with the guys who would otherwise be taller than me.  It's really very low on my list of concerns.

I'm 5'8" and haven't gotten too many stares only a small handful but the long annoying ones are always indian women. Don't know why though. I know and have several female friends that are my same height so maybe it's more common than we think. Most of them are tomboyish and are physically stronger than I am after four months of sprio. It's funny I am asking for more help.

I wrenched my back moving a computer tower yesterday.  Of everything, I think my upper body strength going bye-bye has been the biggest impact HRT has had on me.

I travel frequently around the world, and I get stares everywhere, whether I wear heels or not.
Even in Northern Europe, people pay attention to me, although my height is 6 feet (183 cm).
In the U.S., some strange girls in the street used to say hello to me, commenting like "You are so tall!".
I was once virtually raped by a drunken man in the U.S., because I was too tall as women, according to the raper.

I'm 6'1" and it used to play on my mind a bt but then I stopped worrying. I agree with the other posters that dressing a bit more sporty-like and outdoorsy is common in the girls that I have been seeing around but I guess it all comes back to dress appropriately for the occasion, unless you DO want attention! :)
My only thoughts are that unless it is a special occasion I think that giant heels are out for me. Damn! hehehe
OMG Barbie! I love your pics! One of the girls I used to work with showed me a couple of pics of her daughters' trip to Japan a few years ago, there was this fantastic picture of her wearing a bright red polka-dot dress in the middle of a sea of black suits in Shibuya (the area with the crazy massive crosswalk that they always show pics of) and she was at least 4" taller than everyone else and there was one guy just staring like the girls in your first shot! LOL I love it!

6'4" here and I've gotten looks and am easily remembered since middle school.  It's just what height does.  Own it, be confident and consider wearing flats (most tall women do).

There are alot of tall women around here too. Most of the time I don't worry about how I will look or stand out. Then other times I go hang out with friends of mine that are cis women and they are considerably shorter then I. one of them doesn't even come up to my armpit. In those cases and when(like today) I am little depressed things like height hand size feet size length of my legs ect do really bother me. I am 6'4" size 12 men's shoe I can fit into most size 13 women's shoes.

I've been complimented on my height, as if I had a choice. But I always assume the stares are either because I am so amazingly gorgeous or because I have a tattoo of a dragon on my right breast...or both!  :D

I am 6'2" and I never know exactly why people start at me so I just assume it's 'cause I'm shockingly beautiful lol.  Definitely not that I look like a giraffe or something worse.

Own it :)

This is a great thread! My wife is nervous that she'll stand out once she transitions because she's 6'2", but it seems like she has nothing to worry about! Me on the other hand, I'm a cis girl and I get a lot of looks for being so short; I'm only 5'1". Really it goes either way!

I was going to say something, but then CannedRabbit beat me to the punch. I am 6'2", and yeah, I'm pretty nervous about the height thing, but I already get stares, and I haven't even begun transition yet! I'd like to think of my size as an advantage though.

The best part about being 6'1" (I lost an inch during transition) is that if the people below are staring, I'm too tall to notice

I don't mind my hands, I've got skinny fingers but still large hands but shoes is a real pain! I'm a size 12/13 in most men's so 12.5 is the smallest women's shoes I can fit in, makes life expensive and my choice limited... Mostly just enjoying sneakers for now :)

I have relatively skinny hands for men but even women my height don't have nearly the hands I have, my bone structure is proportionate to women my height with the exception of hands and feet. My mom has always commented that she can't believe how big my hands and feet are, she knew nothing of me being transgender before last year. when I was a teenager she always compared my hands and feet with hers.

Sometimes I think I might be intersex and they had surgery on me when I was a baby. That is why she can't believe the size of my hands and feet, but says nothing of my 2 older brothers. That and They were born in a small town hospital and because of complications that she won't discuss with me I had to be born in a big city hospital.

When I get down about my height, I practice gratitude that my hands aren't equally as large.  When I get down about my size 12 women's feet, I remember they are at least rather narrow.  I think we have to focus on what we like about our bodies as much if not more than what we feel insecure about.  I also think if we are insecure about our height (for example) we can work on other things like our fashion choices, voice, make up, etc., all things completely within our control.

Ok I had a weird dream last night. Ok for the last week or so I have been dreaming about transitioning and after transition.

So Last night I had a dream that I was done with my transition FFS HRT SRS ect. anyways I was walking down the street and I ran into my male self and we hug. I wake up feeling great , refreshed and generally in a good mood. BTW my mood sucked yesterday I was really depressed.

Anyways I kind of wondered about that dream, wonder if it meant I need to get in touch with my male side as with my female side? Or Something like that

Who knows about dreams?  It's whatever you think they mean.

If it were my dream, I'd take it to be that my male side was happy, perhaps even relieved, that my female side was happy and doing well after a long struggle.

I like it :)

I think we all reach a moment in our transitions where we need to metaphorically say goodbye to our "old selves," and that often happens in a dream because that's where we process subconscious, psyche type issues.  Maybe this was yours?  If so, that is a big step I feel, so congrats :)
