Title: Slightly elevated blood sugar, slightly low cholesterol
Post by: Hideyoshi on June 12, 2013, 03:38:04 PM
I recently had a blood test after about 6 weeks on spiro (9+ months estradiol) and I got the results back today.

The only numbers that were off were my blood glucose and cholesterol.  Glucose was slightly elevated (few points above highest normal value) and cholesterol was slightly low (few points below lowest normal value)

I've forgotten the exact values, but they both were just out of the normal range.  Is this a cause for concern/normal?  The blood test was taken later in the day after lunch, so could that have a lot to do with the results?  I might just lay off candy...

Good news tho, after starting spiro, my estradiol has almost doubled from 39 pp/ml to 71 pp/ml.  My T results aren't in yet but I think they're gonna be low since my feminization has been put into hyper drive with the spiro (boobs and butt exploding)

As I understand it, from my limited blood testing experience, I think generally you're supposed to fast before the cholesterol testing blood test. May be worth checking whether you were supposed to?

I typically (always) fast for my A1C (blood glucose) test.  Twelve hours.

Yeah, you should have fasted. I used to have to drive 3 hours to an endo and I had a bad habit of eating orange tic tacs and trolli octopi candy on the way and it always threw off my blood sugar level.

Yes, should never eat before taking cholesterol test - even drinking a tiny cup of coffee will mess Your results up. It is best to take it early in the morning , around 8-9 A.M. I have "normally" increased level of cholesterol, but that is just my family thing.
As for blood glucose, my initial blood test before I started HRT showed a bit elevated level - my endo said that it is ok and has no effect on the hormones whatsoever.

I agree with Sarah Louise and the other posters here, who noted that blood sugar and cholesterol measurements should be made after a fasting interval.

In fact, even one measurement does not tell the story, unless is is waaaaaay off.  Repeated testing helps determine whether you have potential health problems.
