Title: Getting depressed because it is taking so long to get help :(
Post by: Jean24 on June 12, 2013, 07:10:58 PM
Well I'm in the military 3 years down and 3 more to go and I'm 25. I work ALOT and can't really get the time off to get the help that I need from a therapist. I'd like to get out and start transitioning asap but am nervous to do it without anybody else even knowing. I have been seeing a therapist and am supposed to be seeing one soon that specializes in gender issues but each day drags on for so long and I feel like it has been wasted. I had been in the closet since adolescence and I feel very compelled to transition ASAP because I'm not getting any younger. I tried coming out to a military psychologist at work so that I could get out and start but they want a summary from the therapist and the specialist. I feel like I am a wreck and that transitioning later on will have more complications. Maybe I'm just venting here, but the situation makes me sad too so I don't really know how to approach this other than to wait. The long days just drag on and I'm left thinking what I could be doing. Any advise for me would be great.

Well, first of all, thank you for your service.

Being in the military is going to have it's own set of challenges and I have no idea if it's even something they are prepared to help you with. Maybe you can get an honorable discharge? How would you plan to transition without anybody else knowing?

Thanks Tiffany. It is kinda tough and I guess I was just venting. It really helped me get through the day just to know somebody cared enough to read about my problem, thank you. :)
I'll just have to figure this out as it comes though. It doesn't seem like they want to help me but I'll find a way.
