Title: Farthers coming to terms with having trans children
Post by: Shannon1979 on June 16, 2013, 11:50:44 AM
Hi i  have talked about my dad a few times on here, In fact i was just metioning him yesterday.

Well what a difference a week can make. Last week i talked with him and he told me that he couldnt see me as female, it was wrong, nobody agreed with what im doing and so on. eventually saying that we could stay in contact by phone or text but meeting was out of the question. i sad i could accept that i was saddened by it but had already previously come to terms with that possibility.

Well Thats changed today. we spoke before dinner. he said that after our talk the previous week he had been upset and ill for a couple of days after. He says this was because he had been thinking and he couldnt cut me out like that. so he has said it will take time but he will come round to my place and meet me as my real self. authough he still says he cant agree with this and never will. Just to say he will meet me is a massive thing. Im so proud of him. Feels a bit odd being proud of my dad but i am.

He may never fully accept it but at least we will hopefully be able to have some sort of relationship.

Shannon, Thats a huge step for your dad to take. I am so happy to hear this news.  :)

Give him time and I'l bet that you will have his full acceptance, especially once he sees how happy you are as the real you.

*HUGS*

:)  :)  :) He doesn't 'ave to 'agree' with ya, just LUV YA - as one myself that's the beauty of great parents !!!!

Encouragement: "Kate" was going to see her parents . . . lol and it was the last we've seen of her!!!!

Well, after postponing three times due to snow, it's finally happening: I leave tomorrow morning to see my parents for the first time as Kate. After reading some of the threads here lately, I'm kinda concerned again. They've been fine on the phone with me, but I keep wondering if actually SEEing me is gonna be "too much." You know, like it's all fine and cool as an IDEA, but when their "son" is standing in front of them with breasts and in women's clothes...

Ah well, it'll be "closure" one way or another I 'spose ;)

~Kate~

( ps: when's the last time you saw your dad??? Give him a break and dress conservatively!!! One of Kate's last surviving posts re: dressing! )

Thank you for the support.

And Kiera Wow I hadn't seen that. but all i can say is i would vote for that man every day of the week. In fact i would be more likely to vote for him than for someone who always supported it. The reason being that it takes a lot to admit that you where wrong especially in public like that. I have nothing but respect for someone who can see there flaws and work to change them.

Shannon,

This is really beautiful.   I'm really happy that your father is coming around and learning to accept everything.
