This was an encouraging piece to read. I also am encouraged by the acceptance of someone so young.
I am so sorry. I had no idea. I tend not to read comments on new stories as a rule due to crap like that. If that is considered upsetting I can remove the post. I just felt that this was some really good news to counteract a lot of the bad that we see.
All of those comments just piss me off. They really do. I am for bathroom support, and yes I can say that maybe they should have been fine with having a bathroom other than the men's, but still. What I find funny is that many people of the younger generations are more liberal. I am not saying this is the majority. I think that what needs to be tackled first is the gay rights. I see this as the real chance for transgender issues to be taken seriously. It will be the same issue that it is now though. There will be people that fight against it. I can see both sides, but really there is no need to call a seven year old a perv. That is just not called for. I don't care who you are. Calling children names is never cool. That just makes me mad. I used to babysit and the thought that somebody might hurt a child or degrade a child does not bod well with me.
that last post was a mess. let me see if I clear things up. I see it as a matter of time before things change because a good part of the generation coming up is liberal and that the real chance the trans community has is in the rights for gays.
I feel that the whole issue of bathrooms is a wash until then. It whole issue has its pros and cons. (I know I just started a fire with that one)
I am mad about the treatment of the child
I always end up reading the comments myself against my better judgement. These were kind of mild. I've seen some where not only were they picking on the child, but saying the parents should be in jail and even posting death threats.

You should take a look at this link Bookworm:

To summarize it, marriage equality doesn't make much sense if we haven't even figured out gender yet. Beyond that there is no reason that the T should have to take a backseat to the LGB. There's a very real danger in doing that as it's been shown several times now that people don't come back for the T when they leave it behind. Take New York for example, anti-discrimination against sexual orientation came in 2002, gender identity can still be discriminated against. Going further having rights as an L is great and all for me but if I don't have the basic rights to be the F that I am, it doesn't do me much good. My point is that we can't wait for people to accept the LGB and then wait for them to just come around for the T. We need to fight for our own rights alongside the LGB.
