Title: Hi there
Post by: mrg58 on June 28, 2013, 03:26:43 PM
Hi everyone!

I suppose I should stop being a lurker and post an introduction. I am a 23-year-old MtF trans girl from New England. I haven't chosen a female name yet, so for now, I'm still going by Michael. When I was 14, I came out as gay, but I knew that that wasn't quite right. I've known how I felt for a long time. In fact, I came out as trans when I was 18, but then I freaked out about transitioning at a Catholic university and decided to push down those feelings for another several years. It wasn't until I was nearing graduation that I realized I had to stop caring about what other people think if I am going to be happy. My circle of friends is very accepting anyway, so there is nothing for me to really worry about there.

I just started hormone therapy three days ago. A trans guy friend of mine suggested finding an online community where I can get advice from people who have already gone through it and where I can talk to people who are at a similar point in their transition.

Well, I suppose that that's it for now. I'm not that great with these things. Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Michael

Good luck talking to your wife. I'm sure that can't be an easy thing to do. Also good luck with your meeting with the doctor! It's exciting when it all finally gets started :)

Hey Michael.  Believe it or not, "Michael" can be a female name!  Look up Miss Michael Learned, the actress.

But I do understand wanting to choose something that better reflects your identity.

In any case, welcome.  I thank your friend for sending you here.  :)

I've heard about Michael being a female name! It made me pretty happy, because I actually do like my name. I just read somewhere (can't remember where) that choosing a name that is more typically female can help with passing. Although, I guess I should just go with what makes me happy.

Hi mrg58, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm a New Englander, too. Yup, cheap and stubborn come naturally to me! See you around the site, hugs, Devlyn
