its been six weeks since my top surgery. Am I safe to do more heavy lifting?  I may be getting a job soon that requires lifting somewhat heavy dogs.

Yes. I do heavy lifting at work so I asked my surgeon and he said by 6 weeks I should be able to lift 15-20kg without an issue.
