Title: FTM considering using DHEA to self-treat low T due to Depo-provera
Post by: B.Eadie on June 30, 2013, 04:25:40 PM
Not sure if this is the place to post this or not, but here's whats up. Basically, I made the mistake of choosing Depo as a birth control method. The trade off of not taking a daily oral contraceptive is severe lowered T levels.

I am considering taking either a low oral dose of DHEA, or a cream. The oral route makes DHEA-S i guess that is utilized differently.

Obviously, I am going to ask the nurses at the clinic about this BEFORE I do anything. I want to know if anyone here have gone this route, and, if so, what were your results? Im pre-everything and want to try to utilize my body's natural ability to make T before going onto more aggressive (and costly) methods.

I don't like the sound of a self treat topic, I want to make sure you understand our policy regarding HRT discussions:

8. The discussion of hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and it's medications are permitted, with the following limitations:
A. You may not advocate for or against a specific medication or combinations of medication for personal gain. This is strictly prohibited.
B. You may not discuss the means to acquire HRT medications without a prescription. The discussion of self medication without a doctors supervision is prohibited.
C. The discussion of recommended or actual dosages is strongly discouraged to prevent information obtained on this site from being used to self medicate.

We can not in good conscience condone the self administering of these medications. Not only may self medication be illegal, but HRT medications can cause serious health problems, and many have the potential for life-threatening side effects that can only be detected and prevented with proper medical supervision.

Self treating isnt the right words to use. I mean moreso, i was looking for alts to injecting.

I want to be clear, any HRT I start WILL BE UNDER SUPERVISION OF A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. I know the dangers of playing "doctor". I come from the South...saw a lot of "you have what symptoms? My realitive has that! Take this."

...no thank you.

Thanks for the clarification, and I'm glad you're going the safe route.

To paraphrase the Blues Brothers, "How often does Devlyn post rule 8?"

"So often you won't even notice! "

My current doc asked if I was on any kind of supplements. She was very happy that I was not. She is VERY pro-supplements and has even suggested some, so it is the nature of the supplements that concerned her. She feels they are dangerous and impair liver function at a higher rate than T does. I've posted this and some people's doctors said the exact same thing.

If you can find someone using "informed consent" for T, this might seem acceptable to you.
