So I came out to a friend recently as a transgendered female and gynaphilic (technically lesbian I suppose), which she found highly amusing as she figured it out waaaaaay before I ever did. She is somewhat genderfluid and identifies as queer sexually.
Anyway, I kept stumbling over the LGBTIQ thingie and we both agreed its just getting stoopid. Inclusive, yes, and thats great, but so is the alphabet. As I am up the L and T end, and she is down the Q end, its important to catch us all (like pokemon). Anyway, after a frustrating discussion we came up with nothing... Someone told me they prefer 'gay-blt', like it was a sandwich... and neither of us is comfortable with having a term that implies 'not normal'.
I am sure you are all ahead of the ball here- are there any better terms than spitting out letters?
QiLegBit... hmmm....
I'm active in a group at work that uses LGBTQIAP as the "official" acronym, the members in the organization will self identify as queer or gay or transgender, as they choose, but mostly we use allies as an all inclusive term. I know, I know, allies have their own definition, but it works here, in a center of over 500. Of course, we also have fun at spitting out the acronym after a margarita or two.
Maybe we just need to ally with a few more vowels ;)
Its good that the term is inclusive. Tis just a mouthful.

Agreed.
Can we use the same acronym, just in alphabetical order? BGLTQ

We could, but the first thing I thought of was BLT, lol. Maybe I just need breakfast :)

I think we're seeing history being written right here on Susan's Place! This is the first pronounceable one I've seen. Say it with me: "Biggleteecue"
Use it in a sentence? Sure:
"I'm part of the biggleteecue community."
"I went to a biggleteecue support meeting."
"Do you support biggleteecue issues?"
Nice work, Anna! Hugs, Devlyn
GSM (for gender and sexual minorities) seems to be gaining popularity.
Yeah but pronouncing that is a TOS violation!
That took me like 5 mins to figure out what you meant lol. I'm such a dope when it comes to innuendo. :(
It took me five minutes to stop laughing.

Thanks! I'm happy to do my part for the biggleteecue community :)

The biggleteecue barbecue is coming up, a fun time will be had by all!

HEY not technically I personally identify as female first, Vegan second, Environmentalist next, then a feminist only way down the list as an afterthought does trans come in it is something that is just a birth defect, something that the doctors made a mistake because they could not tell I was female because they onle paey attention to the externals instead of who I really am.
As an actual womn who is oriented towards womyn this makes me automatically by definition - lesbian
as to the alphabet soup
I use the simplest LGBT
or our local one has extended it LGBTQ and the reason they say the L is first instead of the G is in the local area the Gays were never involved in making the club active so they did not get to name the organization. ;D kind of frontier justice

I'll just take the BLT part, if you don't mind. I'm kinda hungry.

Do you know what "innuendo" is??
My Italian doctor thinks it is a suppository.
I call it the Acronym Alliance, cuz it reminds me of Star Wars.
rebel scum :D
also alliteration, it's cool
Guy "so do you want to go out for coffee maybe?"
Me "gee thats really flattering, but I am acronym."
Guy "oh."
Innuendo joke totally got me rethinking the lyrics of queens innuendo. :icon_lol:
If you say biggleteeque three times in a mirror, does michael keaton show up in a dress?

I want to see this! Now I'm tempted to go watch Beetlejuice...
Extended Orientation Dissemination EOD
figures this will blow up in her face ... cringes waiting to get smacked in the back of the head..
Dont worry about blow ups .. thus is a humorous thread about a touchy subject- lets keep it like a brainstorm... there are no wrong answers... just a right one waiting to pop out.
For example, we could coopt a word, like 'gay' used to mean bright and carefree. How about we coopt 'awesome'.
"Support awesome rights!"
"Me? I am awesome."
"We should think about how our company supports the awesome community."
Now I am off to watch beetlejuice. Mmmmm geena davis.
Extended is good though. I like that.
Extended sexual orientation and/or gender community. Esog?
Beyond binary community. .. bbc? - gee this is hard.
Ooh.. what about 'outside the box' or outbox for short...
Didn't wont to use to word 'sex'-anything ... some people's imagination, or utter lack of one, get the best of them when they hear that.. Like Transsexual... you lose them at 'sex' and anything after that you say is ..bla blabla blaaaa bla blabla in their ears...
I like ESOG ...Extended Spectrum Orientation Group
Don't people sometimes use "gender or sexual minority"? I feel like that covers everyone in the acronym.
Ahh bingo Lorri Kat (cute pic btw)
I was trying to work out why I prefer the term transgendered to transexual. Its indeed the sex bit that causes the shock. Actually I like crossgendered a bit better or the more dynamic X-gendered.
The minority bit doesnt lend well to political weight... something that says 'we have lots of votes!' ;)
People of atypical gender and/or orientatation pago
Snickers...LOL "dynamic X-gendered" That would make me an X-Gen Gen-X'er... ...snorts... O.O OMG!!!... blushes ... LOLROTF... :D
Yea anything with 'non-binary', 'cross-', 'sex-anything' , atypical, minority, even 'trans' in the title(acronym) gives the conotation of being 'less then' to society in general to those that are not enlightened of the subject and will be equated, perhaps, as weakness
I find Transgendered is easier for people to take in a conversation even though it is a blanket term for the whole spectrum then using transsexual, which as I said before you tend to lose them at 'sex' unless they are already educated in the whole thing. Using TG though can be worse if they are one of those people that are in the .. 'know enough to be dangerous' category. Then you find it's ..pull out the whiteboard and laser pointer class is in session time. Its hard to give a Readers Digest condensed version on the spot of.. I'm normal. And, to quote myself, "I would be more accepted if there wasen't such piss poor quality control in the womb! I swear I was conceived on a friday before a long weekend and was slapped together in there with what ever parts were on hand irrespective of what it said on the invoice. GerrrrrRRRRRRRRR!" I'm living proof mother nature has a sadistic sense of humor at times. :) I think she gave me some of her Snarky though!!! lol
Yeah I got me a dose of snark instead of testosterone at the critical bit. :)

Nailed It!
I love the way you think hon.
Came across an interesting one today. QUILTBAG. "Queer/Questioning, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Trans (Transgender/Transexual), Bisexual, Asexual, Gay/Genderqueer"
We're all pieces of the quilt
I've heard of the Queer Alphabet soup but depending on one's perspective, they may find it it be as inclusive as intended, and perhaps even offending.
How about the non-conforming alphabet soup instead?
Quiltbag.
:eusa_clap:
Supercalifragulistic?
How about 'spectrum community'.
Btw I love how the term lgbt community makes us sound like we all hang out in the same place and know each other... like sesame street.

Seconded.
If anyone's looking for something really simple, we could just add a + with the old acronym. LGBT+, LGBTQA+, etc. Not very precise and kind of lazy, but it still recognizes other parts of the community.
Wait but with QUILTBAG does that mean we're a bag of quilts or a bag made of a quilt???
A bag made of quilting that contains quilts.
That's it. I am proudly quilt bag.
