Title: Stretch marks
Post by: Holly31 on June 12, 2007, 09:47:54 PM
God someone help me!!! I am 32 not overweight almost 2 years on HRT and I am getting Stretch marks on my stomach around my belly button area. I use coco butter lotion everynight, my pants are not to tight etc etc.... I did switch from the patches to gel, and blood tests are fine. What's wrong with me there is NO way I could ever wear a short t-shirt or bathing suit top. I look like someone cut a 3 inch line in me and stiched it up with dental floss.

I'm also far from overweight and I've got stretch marks all over my hips. Its hereditary, some people get it, some don't. Those with taut skin that are not overweight can get them even if they gain just a little weight (that's my case).  You can't avoid stretch marks with ANY moisterizer, or anything you put on your skin (except possibly retin-A (but it only diminises them 20-30%). The tear is in the deepest part of the dermis; the skin is ripped from the inside out. Most GG's have stretch marks, ask them. Most of them fade over time and become barely noticeable. Try to keep your weight down, even lose a bit of weight, so you've got a bit of looseness in your skin (besides that, nothing really helps).

I heard somewhere that stretch marks are caused by unstable hormone levels. You might want to check into that.

Mine are fine I had them checked when I switched from patches to gel.

Hello Holly,

You have stretchmarks because chemically you are a young girl going through puberty. Pubescent girls get stretchmarks on their breasts, hips, and stomach. Overtime they will most likely fade and blend in with your skin tone. Don't fret. It's normal. :)

I really hope they go away. I thought they might be from weight gain so I went on a crash diet, and poof more popped up. It's not that bad cause I can wear something to cover it, but dam I love those cute little cut off shirts.

Try Vitamin E, Holly. Get the oil capsule supplement, break them open and put the oil on the stretch marks. Cheaper than any expensive treatment. Works for scars too.

As I said, the strech mark is a tear in the skin FROM THE INSIDE, in the deepest layer of the skin, no topical cream like vitamin E can reach there, none has an effect though that doesn't stop cosmetic companies from selling all sort of miracle cures. Only things that effect the deepest dermal layers will work: like a phenol peel, retin-a and to some degree high percentage TCA peels can repair the skin in any way. I'm not sure if CO2/Fraxel lasers can do a thing there, the CO2 probably can, but I'm not so sure about the fraxel (someone can check).

Ah, seemed to work on mine. But then again, chest surgery removed a lot of mine too. Maybe they fade with time to some extent as well.

Yes, they do fade with time, especially if they are not too severe. Many people who think topicals are working are actually just seeing the skin naturally repair itself. Cosmetic companies bank on that coincidence all the time.

I have been getting them on my thighs and backs of my legs. I have been putting everything on them and nothing is happening. If there was an off the shelf cure I would have found it.  Angie,

When I transitioned I developed stretch marks on my hips and thighs, but never put any creams on and the marks have pretty much totally faded away over the years.

Every girl (I  know) has stretch marks. I have them, and I'm not over weight. The worst place I have them is on my arms -- so guess how fun it is for me to go out in public like that. I've had them since I was young. I have them in other places as well. They fade over time, of course.
