Title: First Day as a Woman at Work
Post by: AbbyJamz on July 24, 2013, 12:46:48 AM
So, for whatever reason, I stayed up all night last night, showered, shaved, put on makeup and drove to work.  About halfway to work, I lost my nerve and started to freak out.  By the time I got to work, I had a full blown panic attack.  I went and hid in the bathroom for over an hour.  When I got out, I had a massive amount of friends cheer me on and talk with me to calm me down.  Even my supervisor said not to worry about getting anywork done. Then, my friend Max took me to dinner to celebrate my accomplishment!  We hung out afterwards, then he kissed me!!!!  OMG!  I don't know what to do now!  Today was just a rollercoaster!  Sorry, I just needed to share with somebody! :)

That is really awesome! Congratulations! With just about everything trans related the first step is always the hardest. Starting the coming out conversation, starting the medical treatment, starting the transition at work etc. so glad you had such a positive experience :)

You go, girl!

Robyn
I remember my first day, too. Flew there, walked in, and was told we had a client meeting in 10 minutes. Hoo boy. Went great and was given a raise.  :) Long time ago.

Wonderful reaction by your co-workers. I love it! So admiring. And to top it off, you were taken out for dinner and got a kiss. Yummy  :D

What a great turnaround for your first day out at work.  Good for You!  How very refreshing to hear your story.  I gotta believe that your character and reputation, prior to the coming out day, is a big part of their acceptance and support for you.  You apparently earned their cheers and no doubt you will continue to be a valuable co-worker and a diversity champion for trans people as you help educate folks around you.  Keep on being out & proud!

Thank you,
Tessa James

Thank you all for all your sweet words!  I'm so glad that everything went well.  I truly am blessed, both in the fact that I have such support at work and in the fact that I have a network of sisters to share in my accomplishments! <3 <3 <3 Thank you so much!
