so I recently came out to my family about my questioning my gender. and slowly but surely i am becoming more comfortable with the idea that i might be trans. i told my mom tonight. she was totally ok with it. it was great. both my parents wanna get me to a gender therapist and are supportive of everything i may do. my mom even suggested i could change my name. which is kinda hastey. i mean that's fantastic she's so open but like, let me see a therapist first. she also told me she always wanted a boy and a girl ( i have a sister) and understood that i felt conflicted about my body. we talked for a good long time.
overall things have been aleviating, i can finally talk to them. this was by far one of the hardest things i have ever done... OTL
I'm both excited and nervous about seeing a gender therapist, i have no idea what to expect from her or him. (i think it'll be a lady?) what are some things they talk about with you when you see them? what are some questions i can expect.
perhaps i am being paranoid i'll get there and have no answers for her. or get there and not understand.
anyway, I'm mostly just glad things are in motion now, my life can resume again. sorry for the rant, just had to get it off my chest.
When talking with a therapist, it has been my experience, it is best just to say what you are feeling at the moment.
It makes no sense wasting time and money. You already have some things on your mind.
My first sentence to my second therapist was, "I have gender issues." I did. And I do.

The best thing is to speak frankly and openly with your psychiatrist. If the person you're dealing with is a doofus, then it means you need to see (and pay) someone more helpful and deserving.
