Title: part time.
Post by: kariann330 on July 31, 2013, 05:21:02 PM
Oi why must it be so depressing. Find a really cute outfit, have to change before i leave the house. Finally get used to my forms, and get them warmed up and gotta take them out of a bra. Wanna do my nails, can't because i might have to leave the house. Wanna go golfing, gotta grab my shorts instead of a skirt. Oh hey it's warm out.....can't grab a sun dress, shorter shorts, skirt etc.. This sucks and is so depressing. I can't wait for full time to come along but if anyone has some advice to make it easier im open to it.

For me part time was hell on me. Not in dealing with things but just the fact it was so enjoyable and did not want it to stop. What i did was make as many long trips i could just so the time was longer and away from the house. I felt the house was more a jail and did most of my part time out done outside the house and the little backwords town i live in.

Lots of luck and hope you start your RLT here soon.

I'm currently part time as well (just starting in last week).  It's difficult.  But, in actuality, the only thing holding you back is yourself.  I've slowly started to realize this.  So, some people may talk or stare, but seriously, people talk and stare no matter what you do, really.  As long as you are happy with you, that's all that matters.  It certainly matters more than the opinions of people you don't know.  That's a fact! ;-)  Hope that helps!  Now, if I could just follow my own advice!

Do your nails in a lighter pink. No one will notice. Wear really big shorts so they look like culottes. Or wear culottes. Just wear women's tops. Maybe not anything with a scoop or boat neck, but maybe do wear something with a bigger neck. Wear boat shoes. Just dress more androgynously. Androgynously female. But not too far so you have denial-ability.

I'm part-time too and it sucks. I'm a freelance writer and I can't dress too female as I have to talk to all of these developers a lot and when I post the article it will have my male name. Though I am considering asking my boss to change it to the feminized version of my name which will make it a female name. Everyone at my old job called me by that and I never even asked them too. A lot of people do/did as a matter of fact. But still. The wrost part is I'm five months into HRT and about to go one a higher dose as I have been on the low side of normal for both E and AAs. I have feminized amazingly well so I imagine it will kick into overdrive soon.

The other thing is people look at me weird when I dress male and it's very rare I get looks when presenting female, except from men and they are staring cause they think I'm cute. This one train conductor has the total hots for me. it's so cute and he treats me so nice, flirts with me, and I bet he will ask for my number soon enough.

It's prolly going to become very hard to present male soon as I get ma'amed and hun'd more than half the time when dressed male anyway. But yeah I hate part time but what I do is dress andro-ish. If nothing else I think it helps with any dysphoria since you know your dressed female and that brings a certain calmness.

Hopefully you'll be able to restart HRT soon. I'm praying for ya! God always answers my prayers lol jk

I started taking long drives to museums, history exhibits, and a few casinos in my new clothes.  It was immediately obvious why girls in my groups took similar trips.  Yeah, couple younger girls used casino as a place to hook-up, but for me these were places I could wear clothes like Bermudas, tank tops, various pull-overs, and pretty button downs.  It was great to stop at these places and get used to being around large groups of people.  I'll admit to liking penny slot machines, but that was a good way of mixing and talking to other women and men my age.  And I ate at the buffets to practice sitting for a meal and to improve mannerisms.  Plus I expanded my appreciation of art, I saw a lot of California and Nevada history exhibits, and probably lost a few dollars to casinos.  :(

Didn't pass well, and it initially hurt if somebody said anything, but that just thickened my skin as time went by.   The excursions were more bold from February through May, and were incredibly liberating.  By the time I was ready for Full-Time it was all so wonderful.

Oh let me say - Being full time is fantastic, and every morning I ask the woman in the mirror "Why did I wait?"  I'm still dealing with problems, misgendering, and some difficult situations, but without breaking down the way I used to.

So have fun with this part-time thing.

Yall are so lucky....in my small country town in Ohio im likely to get jumped if i leave the house in anything remotely feminine right now. I can't wait till i get back on hormones so i can get to that male-fail point that i can really start getting rid of my boy clothes and start living life as me.

Try some plain womens button down shirts, and sensible shorts when you go outside in the yard (if you have one)  It's very androgynous, and it helped me when I started.  You may need to drive to a larger town to shop at Walmart.  I got great Clearance deals on some long sleave snap down western shirts, shorts, and jeans.   Some for three bucks.

As Red Green used to say.  "I'm pulling for ya!  We're all in this together."

When I was part time I just tried to find juniors clothing which would fit me and yet would look like clothing for either sex.  Wearing nail polish in neutral colors also helped.  I also had this long all in one wallet which allowed me to express my feminine side without having to carry a purse.  To this day I don't think anyone ever had a clue that I was in all female attire.

Oh yeah.  Tell people your changing your style to be more modern and trendy.  I was lucky again by being from California here in a small-town-conservative part of Michigan.  I just said "I'm going all California on people."

Lets just be really clear here. If you are not doing what you wish then you and only you are the one that is choosing to not do it.

A final though. If you think your situation is unique.....think again. The small but ever increasing group of people that have actually transitioned have had to go through this, and well survived. We are here and we did it.

Yargh! Part time is the absolute pits. I am really not sure what to say as I don't know the ins and outs of where the OP lives but around my way the forest (of Dean) folk have a reputation for insular intolerance like you wouldn't believe (Google Fred and Rose West for an idea, if you are feeling brave). I haven't (yet) had anyone even say anything to me, let alone anything more serious so I am still stuck on the idea that most of what holds us back is ourselves.

Rosie.
