Title: Vintage fashion
Post by: SciNerdGirl on August 02, 2013, 10:45:15 PM
So, are any of the ladies on here into vintage fashion.

I personally love 1930s swing/lindyhop fashion.  It is such a fun look.

I'm not sure what your posting since it's not showing to we non-Facebook users. I think it's generally best to only post pics viewable to everyone.

I Know Right.  It is kind of a pain that vintage clothes usually come in two sizes, Small and Extra Small.  I guess it's a good inspiration to keep loosing weight.

I Personally Love, Love LOVE anything with polka dots.

What a coincidence...I've been thinking I might want to try some hairstyles from the 30s and 40s, at least look into how they're done, the look, etc.

Yes, and the clothes too! The trick is to learn how to sew--the women back then were known for their sewing skills, and then you can make whatever size or style you want! ;)

generally that style is just a little too skinny for me - I am a size 10 still - I never made it quite that small - I have always been just a bit plump

I do like like some of the older styles though - more into 50's though

Yes. I have some polka dots. One was too short for me, and I gave it to my wife. The following one is very comfort, even at home.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7292%2F9510162286_9c3075f003_o.jpg&hash=491ffb795bf33565bc6458deb4cfbc8d7ea5d4e4)

Today I became suddenly interested in Daisy Dukes, searching online stores. Daisy dukes are also a kind of vintage? I am not sure, as we do not have an officially translated term for it in my country. I want to wear shorts like the following one:

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi2.listal.com%2Fimage%2F3573272%2F600full-40-drool-inducing-photos-of-hotties-in-daisy-dukes.jpg&hash=b60d07dda6cc4c2d457744d3a3cc5521723d9c45)

But, I fear people call me slut. Those extremely short pants are a trend here in my country. I also saw one girl wearing it in northern Italy (Venice) a month ago. She looked so sexy, but I though it is not a usual dress to wear in public. I may try it in a beach, but I am not quite sure.

don't go sticking your butt out - guess I am just old fashioned

I suppose you can buy "Daisy Dukes", but in my part of the world, that's just what happens when your jeans get worn and you cut off the legs. I can't say as I ever cut any that short, though. It certainly would make tucking a challenge. I'd suggest going with a pair a bit longer than those in the picture.

when my clothes get worn out and become garbage I throw them away, garbage is garbage, or they become rage to use as cleaning rags.

I choose to look halfway decent in public even when I was homeless I did so

There's nothing wrong with amending clothes to make them wearable again.  Its really not nice to call it garbage.  It doesn't have to look trashy, you just have to have some design sense.  Not everyone likes to be so wasteful.

if your your parts show when you wear them - your clothes are trash - and I am sorry  - you can call me judgmental - so are you -

if you patch your clothes then fine - I have absolutely no problem with people being poor and re wearing clothes - trust me - I wear clothes from thrift stores - I have only one piece of clothing in my closet that was purchased new & it was purchased with a coupon that I earned by doing surveys online - I have not bought  new clothes in over 5 years OK?! I am not a wealthy person nor do I spend a whole lot of money on clothes nor do I think people have to

what she was wearing did in fact look trashy - her butt was hanging out

Lyric,

I saw a lot of brand new, very short denim shorts in stores when I toured around Hong Kong shopping malls with my wife. I thought they were a kind of beach wear, but fairly expensive. Anyway, I should have picked up one of them. Yesterday in a beach, I saw some girls wearing very short pants, revealing the buttock lines. Certainly they will help ventilating my buttocks to subdue recurrent pimples.

Well, fashion is fashion I guess. While I'm not quite as conservative about these things as Vegie is, I'd be reluctant to hit the streets with the bottom of my fanny showing. BTW, I noticed your illustration of the Daisy Dukes wearer has been censored since I was here last. I guess there's a certain amount to fanny cleavage that's acceptable here at Susan's. :)

WAIT! I am NOT! conservative - I am way liberal - you got me totally wrong -

if you are going to wear clothes - wear them right! you want to show your body! do that right! I happen to be a naturist!  ;D I believe in doing things the right way.. I just think that she was being sloppy and I hate being sloppy. Slovenly seem disgusting to me - it reeks of not caring about yourself and that makes you seem low class.

Last year's sloppy tends to become this year's high fashion. Recall jeans with torn knees, boy's low-slung pants-- even faded jeans once were considered tacky. I've learned to never make presumptions.

Hyper Color underpants will return.       Sadly.

Uhg.  Hypercolor is a fabric that changes colour with heat like a mood ring.  The early nineties saw this wonder arrive.  Unfortunately all it did was highlight your sweaty bits.
It was a fashion that deserved to die.

The following short pants were once sensational in 2006, because they were too short (25 cm length, or about 10 inch), according to some media reports here.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm4.staticflickr.com%2F3831%2F9545862254_81f7300457_o.jpg&hash=af1c98d4f83796b19b34f7f9f645a91cf0bc2502)

Now they look classical and conservative, compared to those commonly seen this summer :

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpostfiles8.naver.net%2F20130427_215%2Fsungme6977_1367020099424b4ESf_PNG%2F%25C7%25CF%25C0%25C7%25BD%25C7%25C1%25BE__%25286%2529.png%3Ftype%3Dw3&hash=ac47ebbb1785a849af465bf8d2d5ecd1c5ee15ca)

I am considering wearing that way (a belt and revealing my belly slightly).

It seems odd to think of 80s fashion as vintage but according to Wikipedia the cutoff is 20 years so all the way up to 1993.  I feel old.  Anyways, I really like 80s fashion, the neon colored tights, leg warmers, Flashdance style shirts, pretty much everything except jean jackets, those I think are horrid.

*Raises hand* I'm not quite a lady, but do you mind if I chime in?

Most anything from the 1900s I'm rather fond of - be it men's or women's fashion.
Though, the '20s and '30s have my favorite styles~ Once I'm good enough at sewing, I want to try making oxford bags.  :D

There are a lot of people that are "into" dressing vintage.  Here in the Los Angeles area there is The Art Deco Society which is having an event at the Queen Mary in Long Beach Fri-Sun. on line you might want to do some lurking at www.thefedoralounge.com they have a girls section with make up, hairstyles and fashion as well as who knows.  The reset of the site is general or for the guys.

Thanks for the link. They have a really long thread there on retro hairdos. I'm going to spend some time going through that. I really love the how a lot of  younger people are into retro things like victory rolls and such these days. Personally, I've always been rather fond of hair and makeup styles of the 1960s, though I haven't done much of it myself. Years ago I did try bubble-teasing a few times. It tended to go flattish on top and really wide on the sides. Getting high hairstyles isn't easy.

Hi!

Love the coats in the last post :-D

I adore Edwardian fashion - the Gibson Girl look, especially the flared long skirts and hair. The stuff that working women would wear at weekends. Very elegant, gorgeous and also potentially quite practical, even for today.

Anyone else into the 1900s to 1910s' aesthetic?
