Title: Hi there... :)
Post by: jollypiratenicknames on August 03, 2013, 03:47:14 AM
Hi everybody! My given name is Larissa but I really prefer to go by Adam if you would, and I'm a FtM, but I haven't transitioned yet due to parental restrictions. :/ I've just gotten up the courage to sign up for a site like this (out of fear that my parents would find out) and I'm really excited that I finally have a place to air my grievances/seek advice/make new friends, which I'm in dire need of. And I also just realized I sound like a lawyer, so let me rephrase that...

I guess what I meant to say was:

Hi! I'm new and I'm really excited to be here and I could definitely use some friends, so hopefully you guys like me! :)

But the truth is I'm here looking for support and advice because my parents know but don't really accept me, which is really hurtful because when I was little my mom always said she'd love me no matter what, and I kind of feel like she's going back on that. So, yeah, long story short I've got lots of sad stuff to get out but right now I'd rather focus on getting to know everybody before I dump all my melodramatic crud on you. Not to mention I've got lots of random questions that I'm looking to get answered, so hopefully that works out. :)

Hi Adam,

Welcome to the site, we have lots of guys here and it is always great to greet a new brother.

Some of the boys will be on as well to greet you and we have a very active section for the guys where they can get away from the girl talk that seems to consume the woman here.

Have a good look around and relax and get into it!!

Cindy

Hello Adam and welcome. I'm new to this place myself. (And to transgendered boards as well) I read what you wrote, sadly I can't help in certain areas because I'm new myself but I'm very sorry your parents are treating you that way, I know it can hurt, really hurt but hang in there. Also this is up to you but for what you said here "because my parents know but don't really accept me, which is really hurtful because when I was little my mom always said she'd love me no matter what, and I kind of feel like she's going back on that." If I were you I'd tell her/them exactly what you said there and let her/them know exactly how you feel and how much it hurts. I dunno if it'll make things better or not but it might be good if you told her/them exactly how you feel. Really just like you they too are having a hard time with this, I'm sure it's a shock to them and they may not know how to handle it, so it might not be that they're not accepting you but don't know how to handle it. I dunno the sitch except what you told me so sorry if I'm mistaken here but I hope I'm not. Whatever the case may be, hang in there. Oh and no you didn't sound like a lawyer to me. :) I'm sure you can make some friends here and I hope to see you around. Also, if you've got questions and need to get something off your chest then go right ahead. Holding it in will only make it worse.

Welcome Adam! :)

Being a parent myself, I'm sure that you're parents still love you. Being trans isn't easy for us and it's even more difficult for the people in our lives to accept. It's new and different to them, just give them some time.

Maybe you can talk them into letting you go to a gender therapist to work out the details. They might accept because they'll probably think you can be "straightened out" and along the way, they may just learn to accept you.

Whatever happens, I hope you can find the peace and happiness that you deserve. :)

I wish every parent of an LGBT kid could read this.

Welcome Adam. :)

That quote brought a tear to my eye.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you, Madeleine. I guess I'm just used to it now; I realized when this whole mess first started that they weren't as flexible as I thought they were, so I just kind of avoid them. But thanks for welcoming me, everybody! I feel better now knowing I've got a support system than I ever have on my own- it's hard going through this by myself, so I'm glad I have people to talk to. :)

Hi Adam, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 6915. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another brother. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsmileys.on-my-web.com%2Frepository%2FAnimals%2Fferret-3.gif&hash=f49e2f86761323f2abd9c33941920389dbb3b10f)
