I've been on HRT for 4 months. Had a follow up last week with Dr and she upped my spiro. Since then I have been drinking water like a camel! I did have greater thirst before on lower spiro but on this higher dosage its much greater. Does this improve over time or do I need to wheel around a barrel of water with me now all the time??
Thanks
Kay

Sprio has a diuretic in it so i removes water in your body. It also will raise your potassium so you need to watch getting to much in your diet. Need also to watch for dehydration when taking spiro so being you are drinking water is a good thing.

I am on a high dose (nearly mentioned values then!) and I drink constantly. If I don't drink half a litre of water before I go to bed and keep another half a litre by the bed to drink in the night during one of the times I wake up, then when I get up I feel hung over.
Huh... I haven't noticed anything like this yet. Then again, I am never without water and coffee.

I haven't seen improvement. Luckily I've always drank a lot of water, so it didn't change my lifestyle.
Yup, doc told me to drink lots of water, so I carry around a large water bottle all day long. This is a good thing to do anyway, I hear a lot of people are dehydrated, and spiro adds to that.
Drink, drink, drink. I had got dehydrated and did not realize it. I now drink a lot more and look at the color of my pee (clear is the goal) and the rebound of a pinch of skin on the back of my hand.
I seem to have a penchant for salty foods as well. I know spiro strips the body of sodium and helps store potassium, but i am also wondering if its maybe something to do with the adrenal glands as well.
At the moment Ill drink constantly.. the place I work at is very hot and humid inside ;_;

My sodium level was off range low at the last blood draw. My Dr. halved the spiro dosage. Spiro doesn't store potassium. It just leaves it alone. Potassium will get too low if you are not careful by over compensating the body uses it normally. My Dr.s warning.

Spironolactone (brand name Aldactone) was originally developed as a potassium-sparing diuretic. As I recall, from several years back, my Aldactone dosage as a diuretic was 1/2 to 1/8 of what many people use in HRT.
I have used other diuretics since then (Indapamide and Hydrochlorothaizide). It is always good to stay hydrated.
