I am minoring in marine biology and need to plan my top surgery around some classes that involve scuba.
Are there any other guys here who do scuba and have had top surgery? Any idea how long I would need to wait after double-incision top surgery before I should be safe to scuba dive? I know swimming should wait 2-3 months-- is the wait time for scuba the same, or should I plan on waiting longer?
Talk with PADI doctor, describe surgery. Best guess is one month past starting to swim again and possibly up to six months. You will need note from surgeon clearing you as well. Not FTM but been diving10 years post multiple surgeries.
Thanks! The internet consensus on diving after chest-related surgeries seems to be around 2 months, but I like to air on the side of caution and would rather give myself some buffer room. I'll try and set my surgery date 4-6 months before any scuba related classes, just to be safe. I'll talk to my surgeon and instructors for more specifics.
