So I tore tons of muscles in my back last night and it cost me a night in the hospital. When they was checking me in, they kept referring to me as miss and ma'am. Even tho my ID still has my male name on it. Then when I got sent over to Triage the nurse asked me when my last period was, I totally burst out into tears. I was so happy to be asked that question. I was in sever pain, wasnt trying to mask my voice at all, had no make up on and it felt so amazing to be passing that well. The X ray tech even asked me when my last period was and it made me cry again. Even after they discovered I was trans, they all kept using all the correct terms when addressing me and made me feel so welcome and safe. That hopsital is going to get the best review in the world from me. Even tho im still in intense pain and can barely move, im in the best mood ever due to all the respect ive been shown. Sorry just had to share this amazing experience.
That's an amazing story, thanks for sharing! I'm so glad the hospital treated you with the dignity and respect you deserve. Stories like this give me hope for my own future so thank you :)
I'm so sorry, I got so caught up in being happy for you I forgot to say get well soon! I really hope your back gets better soon.
Of course they referred to you as miss and ma'am. Judging by your avatar they would be crazy to think otherwise. :)
I hope you feel better. Torn muscles are never fun. Don't feel afraid to tell them that you are in need of medication as it is okay to use them responsibly in these sorts of situations.
A smile is the best medicine! Thanks for the bad news/good news post, and get better soon! Hugs, Devlyn
they got me pretty doped up, they sent me home with a mountian of volume, tamadoil, and some other stuff. Im usually awake for 15 mins then go comatos for a few hours everytime its time to take the meds
I hope you feel better. Torn muscles SUCK! Ouch!
But judging from your avatar I would have ma'amed you with thinking about it. You're a beauty!
Hurry up and get well! :)
Thats Great!
similar to the time a Dr asked me why I was taking testosterone, if I had a deficiency.
Hope your back heals soon!
Thanks for all the great well wishes. ;D
That's really wonderful -- though as others have said, I think you totally pass, too.
I find hospital staff to be really caring human beings. I was admitted to the hospital earlier this year and had to stay for a few days. I don't pass, heck I haven't even had laser done on my face yet, and I decided not to bother trying or bringing it up because I wanted a smooth hospital stay. Yet somehow the nurses found out I was trans (I've had a few years of hormones and have very long hair, so I do look a bit odd and they prodded me about it), and afterwards they insisted on using female terms, pronouns, and my preferred name that they got out of me.
The nurses were really sincere and encouraging about it and definitely took the initiative all on their own -- they even got really upset with the doctors for rooming me with a male, and moved him elsewhere. They loved talking to me about it (I told them it was okay and they wouldn't offend me) and really loved my voice. Only one really religious nurse was kind of questioning me about it, but she was still respectful enough, and another one got annoyed with her and said she needed to read more. I quickly befriended one nurse who talked to me a ton, and she said that if I were her daughter, she would have done everything in her power to be sure I wouldn't be struggling with my issue. That same nurse saw me at work about a month ago and was extremely nice to me, and said she missed me and was really happy to see me again.
I was really sad when I had to leave. I can completely relate to the feeling of safety and how much pain I was able to ignore because everyone was so wonderful to me. I'm really glad that you had an awesome experience, too, and I hope you get well very soon!
I wish you speed in recovery on your back. I know all about back have had bad back for almost 30 years now, no fun at all.
There has been a few time i had the same questions asked to me. First time i was thrown back and kinda was dumb founded, now i just say i do not have the parts to have periods. Its the medical fields way to ask if maybe are you pregnant.
Glad everything with you went well with the gender issue.

I hope you are okay, Teela
just a few torn muscles, im back home but on tons of pain killers and muscle relaxers. A few days of rest, then a week or so of taking it easy while stretching ill be back to normal. But yea, the pain is intense, sometimes when im trying to walk across the house I collapse like someone hit my bodies off button.
Oh my! Just take it easy, okay?
Yep will do. trust me my body wont let me do anything more then try to traverse the house to make it to the restroom. Also in the You look fabulious thread, Thank you for your kind words on all the photos I posted
I'm sorry that you had to go through this Teela but how wonderful it is that you were treated with respect by the hospital people. Heal up soon!
Damn :/ It sucks to hear you are in pain as you tore some muscles in your back.
I am delighted to hear you are reveling in being treated rightfully though, that's marvelous.
I hope you are back on your feet in no time =]
