Title: SRS in the US
Post by: AMDERS on August 05, 2013, 09:24:29 AM
Why is it that most people seem to be having SRS in Thailand and out of the country? Is it because of the skills of the surgeon, price, options, ect.? Thank you for the responses!

Mostly price.  It is cheaper even with plane fare, hotel and food.

Money. It costs less outside the USA. This is also true with most other related medical procedures.

I believe the main reason is cost.   I plan on having SRS outside of the USA because it's cheaper even with flying, room, food etc.

For me it was a break even proposition since one U.S. surgeon is in my state and the travel was by car, to and from.  Also, some of the Thai folks would not take me as a patient due to some extra medical risks I have, and even though my health insurance would not pay for it this year, they had a medical center near by the surgery hospital that could take care of my non SRS issues very easily.  I netted out the purely vacation stuff I would have spent anyway, since I love the Northern California coast line areas.  I spent 33 years in an accounting field so I look at it differently.

At 6 months post, I am healthy and very happy and it will only be another three and half years until I am paid off.  I look very good, and have had two doctors assume I was natal.   ;D  Florida has one SRS surgeon who is becoming better known and respected, and if he is close to you, it becomes much cheaper with him.

Its not always cost just most of the time ;) mine surgery total was 17k I could of had it here at that cost but chose Thailand in the end well because I have never traveled abroad and seen it as the opportunity as a grand adventure! well that and I liked the surgeon's response's to questions.

University of Miami also does surgery although it's more expensive than Dr Reed but obviously a little more hands on (professional) aftercare in hospital.
