Title: nair and nails
Post by: sandrauk on August 06, 2013, 04:58:33 AM
I used Nair before I went on holiday. As I was showering it off and washing my hair I noticed that my nails were bending so much that it was actually painful (on my nails) to massage my scalp.

I'm not sure if the Nair was softening or dissolving my nails, but they have been constantly breaking ever since. I will be keeping it off my nails from now on. I used to have very strong nails when I was younger and assumed recent breakage was just old age but now I think it may be the Nair that made them break more.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Nails are made of keratin, the same protein that makes up hair. So anything that dissolves hair will likely dissolve nails too.

I love the feeling of my hands with the top layer of skin dissolved off though...so smooth

I would get some of thats strengthening clear polish adn apply it immediately, if it brittled and withered your nails to where they thinned out and are bendy, untill new growth comes in.....that doesnt sound very fun at all!

And take into consideration that softer nails are one of the results of the HRT. In fact, female nails are softer than male ones, so we are getting what we had been asking for :P

Ya, I've noticed that too! wayyy easier to break, I usually keep some kind of polish on them, luckily I take 5k Biotin(max recommended)for hair growth and a womans multi vitamin, both which are really good for scalp hair and for nails.  But After my nightmare with Nair I avoid the products all around still.  They scare me.  However, that may change in the future, but having to shave my legs once a week now isn't such a hassle as how it used to be-which was once every other day!  HRT is my hero!!!!! :p
