Title: multiple cysts in breast tissue
Post by: owl on August 10, 2013, 04:23:08 AM
(Possible trigger warning?)

I had a small cyst in the right side of my chest, in my breast tissue for about three months. About a month ago I felt another lump and a few weeks later, a few more. I now have 4 cysts in my breast tissue and one of them is extremely painful and hard. On Wednesday, I seen my family care doctor and she gave me some options. She explained to me that I have fibrocystic breast disease and I could develop cysts for the rest of my life. My options were to either take some Ibuprofen (prescribed) for pain and inflammation or I could possible have surgery to remove them and I asked for a referral to a surgeon to have the cysts removed. I had top surgery in Feb of 2012 and my concern is that whatever these cysts are could turn into something worse or possibly spread like it has been and/or cause other health problems. I see the surgeon on Tuesday and I'm not sure what will happen that day, I hope they can either take a biopsy or remove them all.

If anyone could give me some advice or shed some light on what to expect with fibrocystic breast disease, I'm 21 and its scary to think that this could get worse as I age and become more painful.

I wasn't diagnosed with a specific condition but developed a number of fibroid cysts in both breasts in my late 20s (about 10 years after starting HRT). I had them removed and they never came back, so there IS hope!

Hope everything works out okay for you!

Don't worry too much, mate.  I just had ultrasounds detect all manner of lumps (possible fibroadenomas, cysts, etc.) in both of mine - my GP was a bit concerned as the radiologist recommended an FNA biopsy - but since I'm having them removed (breasts) in top surgery in January, there's really no point.

Sometimes there's not much you can do.  Having them removed may or may not mean that they return - but cysts are common and quite different from cancer.  From what I've read, having fibrocystic breasts doesn't necessarily increase your risk of developing cancer, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you had a reason to.  Good luck.

I know quite a number of people who had them. I think they are uncomfortable from what I understand but Kreuzfidel is quite right. OTOH, never heard of anyone getting top surgery that way (I mean paid for), as I don't think that it would be a treatment for cis women.
