Hi! I'm over 50 and it seems that I am developing at about half the rate as younger girls. I've been on HRT about 4 months, yet my development suggests to me that I'm more at the 2 month mark. I have read that there is a decrease of estrogen receptions as one's age increases. I've switched from oral (sublingual) to injections. I had been taking progesterone, but have temporarily discontinued it, since I read that progesterone can compete with estrogen in the system. I'm curious if any one has experienced the same slow development.
You are all the best!!

Well I'm 51 and I really can't complain after 7 month hrt. I've read where sometimes it's easier for older girls as there is less T running around too. But I think everyone is different so your mileage may vary.
Beni
You can't really generalize.
Devellopment speed mostly depend on human growth hormones level.
As we age we get less HGH, this can be partially compensated for by
taking higher E doses, but only to a point.
The level of decrease of HGH with age is highly variable and can't be generalized.
Even amongst teens, some devellop faster, so slower. Its very hard to determine if your slower rate of growth is due simply to genetics or to aging factors.

Barb .... get real ... ::) ...
Development at 4 months, just what are you expecting to see ??? ?!?
Maybe some changes in skin tone and a calming of male sexual urges ?
Body hair reduction, body shape changes, give it a year at least to get any idea ...
... if your'e thin with a 36 inch chest pre-hrt (like me at 48-yo, 134lb, size 8-10) and so don't have "man boobs" already, think yourself lucky if you achieve a full A cup ... if you're overweight then maybe you'll end up a B or C, but on a wide masculine frame they'll still look like "man boobs" !
Although my breasts are small my size 8 waist and modest but "tall for a woman" 5ft 7in height (5ft 10in in heels) gives me a figure I'm really happy with, especially considering my age (!) .... and unlike bigger or taller girls I'm never "clocked" in the street, any challenge involves far closer more intimate contact.
Teenage girls take quite a few years to "develop", and only achieve their mature body shape when about 20, TS girls starting hrt even at 16 are pushed to catch up, at post 50, when your body's long given up the concept of growing, the hope for major body changes without surgery is a lost cause !
But hey, look at so many 50+ natal women, I look at so many 30+ women and think how much better I look certainly in terms of my "figure" ....

Laura, on the DIY groups, there's plenty of over 50 girl with B, C and even D cup, I wouldn't generalize.
The effect of agin of growth factors is very variable. If your over 65, then there's a good chance that growth will be very slow and you may not reach your growth potential before death (since HGH levels drop quickly at a more advanced age)
Keira, they're telling lies or they're massively overweight, show me a 50+ ts woman who's really 34/36 C/D or maybe even 38 C/D on hrt alone .... more likely it will be kind of 42/44 C with a 36 - 40 inch waist ::).
Love to see some bikini pics of these women to see what they really look like :o !!!

I am 51. I am not disappointed in the rate of feminization and in one area, surprised by both the rate and magnitude of growth and development.
I had been taking sublingually administered "E", but after experiencing a TIA [not a pleasant experience, but no damage sustained], my doctor and I discussed the issue and we changed the administration mode to IM [Delestrogen].
This was done primarily for long-term systemic health and for safety [oral "E" is well known to create thrombo-embolitic (increased tendency for the blood to clot) risk in older women], but unexpectedly, the rate of feminization significantly increased with the change.
I am content with how the development is proceeding.
Hum... Well I'm a 38C, well ok, off by about a 1/4" from being C, but still growing. Yes the wider frame distracts from the boobage. but then again my mother was big framed too and big boobed, so I works with what I've gots. I'm also about 5-11. I have lost 40+ pounds in 7 months, lots of walking and cycling. Still need to loose 40 more pounds give or take. My goal is to be 150ish by march 08 or about GRS time.
It just depends on genetics. everyone is different.

I've not noticed much and I started in my 30's. I still can't get any female fat distribution and my breasts are still very small like the size on a guy on the beer. I've been on hormones and anti- androgens for 7 years!
During have time I've tried almost everything but nothing really works and if I'm honest I haven't seen many T girls with the right fat distribution. Possibly one or two at the most. The majority are thin with no hips or development.
I think more research should be done to find out why they rarely work on people over the age of puberty. I am quite feminine anyway, with a small features, frame and a high voice and I would have thought they would work better on me than possibly many others. But this was not the case. I do get upset and it is very frustrating and information should point out that they may not work on some people.

So you are probably the exception to the rule Rachael.....I need a breast operation as I can't even get an A cup after 7 years on hormones....
I took low doses of hormones in my early 20's for several years (4)
Those that have done that tend to do well later. Not sure why.
Possibly because fat cells get created and they're not destroyed later when you stop.
So, if you take hormones later, they're simply reactivated.
As to proper fat redistribution, unless you're overweight, your male skeletal structure and frame will overshadow the fat you have. If your frame is much bigger than a GG, then you need more fat % to really show on your frame, same thing as breasts, a breast size that works for a GG won't work if you've got a 44 inch frame. I think that's where the "too small breasts", not enough fat redistribution, come from mainly.
TS's that have GG size breasts tended to be small framed for their height as men. In my case, I'm 6 foot tall and wear 36C, got them in less than a year (I'll be pushing D eventually the way I'm going) (I'm 39). I've got substantially bigger breasts than my sister. She's a 34B and 5 foot 8.
Of course, if genetically you were supposed to get A's on a 36 frame and your frame is 46, the body will probably not compensate, its not like the breast gland knows what body size its on when it receives the stimulation from E and progesterone, and you'll be lucky to get 42AA. So, your not getting less breast tissue, your just getting less proportionally unless you body size is GG like.

Keira, I took hormones in my 20's and I'm not overweight and have a small frame. I'm also not very tall. Could it be I'm not taking progesterone and only oestrogen and anti - androgens? I don't really have an endocrinologist as in the U.K they are hard to find, especially one who might know about gender dysphoria.
I am booked in soon for a breast operation as so far I've hardly got anything there from hormones. Maybe in America the hormones are a different format as most of the T girls I've seen in England haven't got the right fat -distribution either and they look skinny with no butt. I've yet to see someone anywhere in the U.K who looks close to a genetic female physically.

I'm originally from the UK which is where I started HRT (EthinylOestradiol + Androcur) and now I have quite a big bum! :P
That said, I've got a small (but perfectly formed!) bust, which is pretty much inline with my mum and sister.
We all react very differently it seems and even age is no guarantee of either good or bad results. It might really be worth trying to get an expert endo opinion if you're unhappy with your progress (I once went to see one at the Whittington Hospital in North London if that's any help...)

Like I said, many TS are bigger framed, they've got the fat and the breasts, its just not as noticeable because of proportions.
The TS that have smaller frames are not really distinguishable from GG's except they're usually taller.
The impact of estrogen is the same no matter what the form, though, for fat distribution, its very important that your testosterone level be kept low or some fat will wind up on the abdomen. That's why menauposal women gain fat around their waist, their T to E ratio increases and thus fat distribution becomes less gynoid like (female like).

I've been on EthinylOestradiol + Androcur for 7 years through a private clinic. I also tried Zoladex which worked in revearse. Nothing seems to work on me so maybe it's time for me to give up? I've never heard of any experts in London and I went to Charing Cross GIC for 7 years which was a complete waste of time with no referrals or treatment program.....any information or help you have to give would be gratefully recieved...
Also a reply to Keira. I have always had very low or non existant testo levels even way before hormones so the fat around the tummy is not related to testo.....
But, the fat around the tummy you had before hormones, doesn't leave unless you exercise, even if you've got no T. My waist initially was 32 inch and its now 28 inch, my hips and buttocks haven't gained anything, fat replaced lost muscles, still got 39 inch hips, 40 inch buttocks as before.
Yet, my waist to hip ratio's now 0.71 now VS 0.82 before. As you see, simply getting my waist trim really made me look more feminine (When I was 18 and very fit, I also had a 28 inch waist). I can still get one more inch less if I lose a bit more fat there.
If exercise fails for the waist, there's always lipo.
Many TS simply don't exercise enough, just like many GG's.
I'm not saying its your case. But, I've seen plenty of that.
Also, I would HIGHLY recommend that you switch away from ethinilestradiol (especially since for you its a long term use), talk to your doctor. It has a very high risk profile for DVT and because of that, the safe dose is actually lower than for other versions of estrogen like bio identical estradiol. The bio-availability of pills is also lower than injectables.
Maybe by switching to an injectable like EV you'd get a better effect (its also very safe). But, if your genetics don't allow a lot of fat (some GG don't have much also), no matter how much you take estrogen, you won't have more.

I have tried all these things with diet and excrcise. Because we are technically genetic males the fat will acumilate around the bellly area while on hormones to mimick male type fat distribution. It could be the receptors in my body do not work with estrogen and still effect a male type fat distribution. I have no additional fat to my hips or buttocks, only my middle area. I do countless excercise including jogging, tummy excercises, I play tennis and go for long walks but the fat still accumilates in the same place. I also have very little bust which could qualify as 'man boobs' and do not have the appearance of a female type breast shape.
I do seems to be improving with the fat on my legs which are a lot better than my friend who is TS and she has been on hormones for 13 years. She is so thin and has no female fat distribution and you can see her boney legs. She has the same problem and only puts weight on around her tummy. We are both in out 40's but started a lot earlier on hormones.
Putting on weight around the tummy is all about E to T ratio.
Eithter T's to high, E' to low, or both.
It has nothing with being male or female.
Menopausal women have the EXACT same problem.
Though, once fat cells have been create ANYWHERE, they's hard to get rid off (they can become smaller though). That's why people do Liposuction.
If you diet and exercise and the first fat that goes away is on the thighs and buttocks, then surely the hormonal balance is not right. Some people are also more sensitive to T and need a lower T to E level than others to get the proper fat distribution. Progesterone also helps in fat distribution.
As I said, ethinilestradiol is not the right estrogen for long term use.

If your body runs out of excess carbohydrates your metabolism will switch to burning body fat (Ketosis) and fat cells will be eaten up as effectively as lipo!
My pre-op urine test acetone levels showed I was still in mild ketosis despite having long abandoned an Atkins type diet regime that dropped my weight from 173 lb to 133 lb in under 4 months.
A diet high in refined carbs is well known to promote fat storage around the belly (beer & wine drinkers !), countering the effect of any E to T ratio.
Guess where I would like to regain fat is on my legs, calves especially .... my legs looked so good even 10 years ago but I guess as a combination of weight loss and age its the one area of my body that hasn't improved.
P.S. dug out this table recording my body development over first four months of hrt (gave it up as tedious as I could see the progress and didn't need to log it - and I guess hrt cured me of such "nerdy" record keeping tendencies ::) !).

YEah, but laura, you need to cut carbs to near zero. At that level, if you do a bit of activity during the day, the muscle will be burned instead of fat (especially if proteins have been cut too), in between those activity period, the fats will be burned.
I'm not sure though if the fats burned will only be in the non gynoid areas if you cut calories too much.
Any diet that burns off the last fat cells, probably will also burn much muscles.
I prefer losing fats very slowly to conserve muscle mass, but that means fat cells will remain (even if they are smaller).

Blow your own trumpet, why don't you.........you certainly love yourself..........so how about a bigger aviatar to show how beautiful you claim to be...
I have looked into buttock implants which I believe a surgeon in Brazil speacialises in........but from what I've heard these arn't very successful. Usually hormones are not that effective after puberty and in your case you are probably an exception. The 'If you haven't got the body for it' attitude you have may be acurate but this section of the forum is to improve on the situation we are already in. Try applying a little more tact next time...

Hey I dont know what you girls are all going on about! If you havnt got the body for it in the first place through genetics you cant expect too much from HRT. I dont see what age has got to do with it. I wasnt even going to go on HRT. I just want to excentuate my lumpy female bits. I dont need fat redistribution. I like how my skin feels nicer though. I have a female body anyway. I just wanted hair removal. Its a pain taking pills everyday. I feel for you girls who arnt getting what you want out of HRT. I really do. It must be frustrating. Oh and if you want a good butt try walking miles everyday. Its really good for it. But if you dont have a butt get implants. Get implants implants. get srs getffs get a ba. Argh I dont want any of these. Hormones will suffice! I dont need surgery to be beautiful. Im natural
What's up with you? If you don't need any of these things, and are tres perfect, why are you posting here? Sounds like you're ready to start Natalie Carole's forum. A forum of one!

Sorry hey! I messed up because Im messed up. You know I want all those things too. I am just upset that they seem neccessary to be accepted. Passing is important and if they help us pass we should jump at every chance to get them. HRT is just the beginning of making changes. And I would go to my own forum if I had one. I dont care if no one else was there. I love myself!
OK so just out of curiosity, I have a 34 inch frame.. 34-26-36 to be exact. Been on hormones for about a year now straight, stand 5'9" 115 pounds (yes thats a size 0) so far i have 11-12 year old boobs. Any idea as to where I'll end up? Oh yeah I'm 28.

I do love myself yes. Whats wrong with that!? Ive been through too much not too. I cant do a real picture yet as my life has been turned upside down and I lost everything through no fault of my own. Except maybe that part me of that is determined to be passionate about being a woman.
Christie, your very very thin. Too thin for sure. No wonder you've got little devellopment. Your BMI=16.8!!! This is anorexia territory! What does your doctor say about that? You can't much fat distribution at that weight that's for sure, all fats are used to keep you up.
For example, I'm about 6 foot tall and 170 pounds (many of it muscles) BMI=23.3, my measures are 40.5-29-40 with a 34 inch frame also. My full body photo is in the thread about body parts started by Mawd and I look pretty thin (I can't imagine how thin/sickly I'd look at 135 pounds (the equivalent for my height of your weight).

Natalie,
you are saying that the aviator pic is not really 'you'. You claim to be 'oh so beautiful' yet you haven't managed to put your own picture in your aviator. It's all starting to sound very dodgy..........why don't you reveal yourself and show us what you really look like and I bet your not so hot as you make out.....

Berleigh, please don't get hung up on Natalie's words, we are all allowed to "dream" and she was I guess using metaphorical language insinuating that she felt beautiful in an "inner sense", as a desire, as an aspiration, not strictly in her present physical reality ....
And pleease check out the word "avatar" ... its a hindu word for the incarnation (bodily manifestation) of a higher being (deva), or the Supreme Being (God) onto planet Earth, soo appropriate for us ? ....
... nothing to do with the "goggle wearing" likes of Amelia Mary Earhart or Amy Johnson, famous women pioneer aviators, both of who died in flying accidents with bodies never found ....
Love to be an aviator though ;) !!!

Yeah Im really ugly at the moment. But I do see my true self as beautiful. I need some Aviator sunnys to hide behind me thinks. The mirrored kind. Then when you look at me you will see yourself. I would love to be an aviator as well hey!
I'm no oil painting and I don't like a lot of my pics but I try and be honest from the outset and people can see 'me' rather than a fabrication. For me 'a spade is a spade' and reality always keeps my feet on the ground. Maybe I'm too straight forward?

If this works for you that's great, but I think it's important to remember we're very much part of a community of individuals and we just don't all feel the same about things.
Personally I have no problem showing my photo to those I feel are genuine site visitors and members, but I admit I'm always a littled concerned that there might be the odd person snooping around for more dubious, voyeuristic reasons.
I can understand people's desire to maintain their privacy. Here in Europe the right to a private life is after all one of our fundamental human rights (this privacy right being one of the reasons that UK birth certificate law was finally changed in 2005...)

After three years, I have nice boobs, not man boobs and I have a large frame, I "pass" when I am in my panties only in the locker room, so there is hope. Still I am getting a BA.

That's nice......I can't get to an A cup despite being on hormones for years...........some times it works...sometimes it doesn't.....in my case it doesn't. I can pass in the locker room and everywhere else....I've no idea how I do it.....especially being flat chested.....

Ok, my point is this.....I understand people's concerns and respect for privacy and not showing thie own pics but to put a picture of a model or actress in their aviator profile is misleading. I thought this is how some of these girls looked and kept complimenting them on how well they had transiioned. There's a big difference between privacy and false presentation even if it isn't deliberate and some people (like me) might take these people at face value..

Thanks for the clarification Berleigh.
Personally for me there are some pics where it's obvious that it's a DIY home photo job and in these cases I assume that it's probably a pic of the person concerned...
However, I don't think it's really a big deal what picture people decide to post (as long as it's not offensive to others). I'm sure most people are not doing it because they are looking to deceive people, they are probably very honest people and no doubt just want to express to us all how they feel inside or how they'd love to look.

I disagree with you mavieenrose........it's better to put 'no picture' in your aviator or a teddy bear than to put a misleading picture of a genetic female which is presented as the person who makes the post. Psychologically you will start to believe that is the peson you are talking to and in reality it could be a 6' 4" trucker from Wigan.......obviously I'm not saying that's they case in this forum but it happens in other forums and it can be a bit scary...
Morning Berleigh,
Actually Louise has started a new thread on the subject (called 'Honesty') in the mtf area, can we carry on our discussion there..?

Actually, I believe Keira is right. It's all an individual proposition. You just have to start hormone replacement therapy and see. Best of luck!

I just now noticed that, and I was about to reply to someone who isn't even a member here
anymore.
Great thread though, haven't seen this one as it was before my time here.
Was it the related topics thingy at the bottom of the page that brought this to light again.
It can be a little confusing cuz some of those topics are from way back.
Lacey, Keira knows her stuff, I wouldn't argue with that, but Rachael's point about the age factor
should never be overlooked by us older folk, as disappointing as it sounds :(
