Title: Goodbye!
Post by: Keira on August 23, 2013, 01:39:04 PM
I'm really not liking the vibes that this forum gives off and I've found a better place that's more open and less strictly modded.

There are some awesome people here, and also some less than kind people here as well. I may pop in once and awhile to see what's going on. And I'll probably post my updates in my blog on here.

I'm not deleting my account, I'm just restricting how much I post here and how much time I spend here.

Also, I may not have to wait another month for my hrt...so positive update.

Goodbye,

-Skye

Skye,

I hope out conversation yesterday didn't upset you or chase you off the site.  My only goal was to help as best as I knew how.  Suffice it to say, I hardly know how to help myself at this point, so I apologize if my advice was less than helpful.  Still I stand by what I said and really hope you will consider some of the advice others have given to you throughout these past few months.  Good luck with your future endeavours.

I shall miss you Skye, but one must go with ones heart.  Keep your account active, so you can come back time to time.

to be honest, I can definitely see where Skye is coming from. I looked for her posts and found a thread she had started and there was some difficulty with communication but nothing I could see that was too angry or offensive. Then a moderator came in and locked it.
quite frankly I find that incredibly rude and offensive to simply lock a thread with no explanation as to why.
I don't even know if I am free to speak my mind like this at this point and if I get reprimanded or something for being honest then I too will be leaving. honestly, Skye or anyone else should never be made to feel this way by mods with a trigger happy finger of god.
if the mods read this, would anyone mind giving an explanation for such rude behaviour? we're supposed to be civilised adults here.

Skye, please get in touch with me if you need some support.

I know this feeling all too well.

My own experiences do not need delving into but I do feel a need to watch what I say.

Skye I'm glad we've had an opportunity to get to know each other here on the forums and have become friends outside this site.

So...

Talk to ya soon!

I know that I generally don't lock topics unless there is a definite ToS rule violation.  Sometimes, the violating posts have been already deleted.  The best way to handle complaints is to send a PM the Forum Administrator, "Fitter Admin", or to Susan.

I am always open to discussion of moderation actions in which I have been involved.

Thank you for the feedback.

I am going to miss you Skye.  Best of luck.  I was glad to hear your positive update.

I should add to what Jamie has said. Sometimes a topic is locked without a final word from a moderator because the moderator has already said something earlier in the thread. Occasionally, a topic is locked and a mod forgets to post the reason. The reason is usually pretty obvious, but not always. Other times, a topic is locked temporarily while the mod gets feedback from other mods.

If you want to know why a topic was locked with no warning and no comment, please, PLEASE send a message to a moderator or administrator, and include a link to the thread so that he or she can look into it. We do make mistakes and oversights, and we can't do our jobs effectively without regular feedback from the people on this site. We get complaints for not acting quickly enough or for not moderating someone harshly enough, and we get complaints for being swaggering, overbearing, tin-plated dictators with delusions of godhood (okay, I stole that from Star Trek). Here's the rub: we sometimes get both types of complaints from different people about exactly the same action. The truth is likely somewhere in between, but different people have different ideas about how things should be. Susan is the final arbiter, as this is her site.

I'm sorry that you won't be around, Skye, but it sounds like you have good news about HRT. Be well, and drop us a line every once in a while.

I should also add that a public challenge of moderation is a violation of Rule #2:

Quote2. Any attempts to stage protests, dispute the site policies, the TOS/rules, or actions of the staff; in the public areas of this site will not be tolerated and will result in your removal. If you have any issues contact Susan by email, or forum private message, and not bring these types of issues into the public spaces on this website. For the proper way to handle problems of this nature see item #20 below.

There are good reasons for this rule, so I post it here as a gentle reminder.

Sorry to derail Skye's thread.

Sorry, that seems a bit stalin-esque to me.
regardless, I'm not disputing anything, just pointing out my personal views on the subject.
Just want to make that clear.
If this results in my 'removal' then so be it.  Wouldn't want to be in a place that suppresses free speech to such a degree.

The Terms of Service are not meant to suppress free speech, but to ensure that the discussion are free of hatred, bashing, and references to illegal activities.

You can be sure there are groups who would celebrate if we were shut down.

From my own libertarian perspective (and I only speak for myself), I welcome a robust conversation, and additionally welcome constructive criticism.

I saw this coming yesterday with Skye's thread being locked.

I've seen plenty of threads locked that didn't violate the TOS.

No threads are locked wthout reason. Members can't see deleted content and guessing with only some of the facts is unreliable. This thread is firmly in TOS #2 territory and it is locked.
