Title: FtM - How long does it take for facial hair to start growing?
Post by: Night Haven on August 24, 2013, 03:13:26 PM
Is there a usual time it takes for facial hair to start growing after taking T, or is it one of those things that can vary widely per person?

I'd like most of the changes HRT will give me, but facial hair isn't one of them - knowing that I can get most of my desired changes before *that* will probably solidify my decision. Also - can going off T make facial hair stop growing, or do you need to get the hair removed yourself once it's there?

Facial hair stays when T ends.

I'm sure it varies person to person.

My anecdote fwiw: my facial hair started coming in right away. Before any body hair even. Right now (4 months on) I have scraggly sideburns, a noticeable mustache, and random super dark hairs on my chin, neck, and jawline.

And second the above, from what I've heard these guys stick around after T.

You sound like me with breast growth! I want itty bitty... well you get the picture XD Yeah I have a friend who is FTM and he is super duper hairy now. Once you have it you'll have to do laser or electrology to get rid of it. It's there to stay, same with my stupid beard!

I can't remember how long it took for his beard to grown in, I just know he is extremely hairy now like his dad and brother. So does depend on genetics, as a genetic male I have 0 arm, back, chest, stomach hair and that is before HRT. So if the men in your family aren't hairy, you most likely won't be either.

As for beards though, they are dominant even in less hairy men. So depending on thinner or thicker, you will get one!

Ahh, alright.

So now I'm going to ask the girls about electrolysis/laser.
And my father for when he started getting facial hair during puberty. :P Not going to be awkward at all... But at least my family doesn't seem to have very hairy men.

Thank you, Harlow~

So now I have to wonder if gels, etc. applied to certain areas of the body would have a more immediate effect in that area, or if they would still end up circulating normally (or just wouldn't work as well).
And if lower as opposed to higher doses would make some things come in more slowly - or at least stretch everything out. Still doubting that one, though.

sex hormones travel all around the body no matter where they start, localised application doesn't really help and might not even be a good idea (depending on the form...) though honestly with a gel i'd say it neither helps nor hurts...

*Scratches head* Yeah, I figured. Wouldn't even think of doing it with injections, but creams and gels were something to wonder about.

*Wistful sigh* I know, if only...

My voice is the worst, though - it's still fairly high even though I've been training to deepen it.
I'll have to ask my father if his voice started deepening before he got facial hair... Might go the same with me if I end up on T. Otherwise... I'd really like to change my height (5'1'' does not a convincing man make) and muscles, but those are either (grudgingly) tolerable or can be remedied without hormones.

In my experience, absolutely everything in transition varies widely depending on the person.

patience... voice sounds like something that might take a long time! ask your dad, maybe he'll tell you the same thing! muscles can be gained, the T will help you with that so that's no problem it's up to you (how much going to the gym can you stand...) as for the height... it's the same thing tall MtFs say and it's hardly any consolation to hear that 'not all men are tall' but it's true... not all men are tall xD it doesn't make you less of a man it just makes you part of a minority... if it really bothers you consider moving to an Asian country? xD in most Asian countries you wouldn't be abnormally short... even for a man xD (below average still but not that much! )

True, true - I've only started this summer, and I've been known to be impatient.

At least I'm not getting the "Many women would love to be petite!" speech anymore (thank you, Mother), so that's swell. I'll have to start looking into sole inserts or what-ever they're called.

*Chuckle* Well, I've always wanted to go to Japan... ^^
