Title: Odd Man Out
Post by: DriftingCrow on August 24, 2013, 08:52:05 PM
I listen to Says You (http://www.saysyou.net/) on NPR, a radio game show. One game they sometimes play (which I am horrible at  :D ) is called "Odd Man Out". The host gives four words/names and the contestants have to find the one that doesn't fit and give the reason why (their reason has to be correct to get all the points). You can see some examples someone came up with here: http://voices.yahoo.com/odd-man-out-4181979.html

Why don't we try it here? Give four words/names and the person to respond needs to respond with the odd man out and state why (we don't need to go through and say whether their reason is correct or not), the person who answers then also needs to give four more words/names to keep the chain going.

1. Anne Bronte
2. J. D. Salinger
3. Washington Irving
4. Stephen King

It's more fun to not rely on Google  :)

Anne Bronte, only female.

J D Salinger, only one using initials.

Washington Irving, a real headless horseman.

Stephen King, only one known as Bachman.

There is a reason for needing a definition or why they are different.

Washington Irving was the only one to not use a pen name.

Where's your 4 Lordkat?

Proves my point, it was black, only color not in the rainbow and only one not an actual color but a shade.

doesn't matter, it could still be fun to try and post something and see if someone comes up with a different answer or can figure out what you were thinking.

I'll repeat

23
57
53
107

Hmmm. . . If you add up the numbers in the number (like 23, do 2 + 3), the only one that doesn't equal an odd number is 107. Also, 107 is the only one with three digits.

1. David Lean
2. Dalton Trumbo
3. Danny Boyle
4. Derek Jarman

This. You can still put down if the answer was correct or not, but not everyone is going to get a chance to respond with their answer. There could be many reasons why something is different, even if its not the one you were thinking of.

I'd like to see Alice's answer for the numbers since I am sure I missed what she was thinking of.  :)

Try again, 5+7 is 12 which is not odd either.  57 is the only non-prime :)
