Title: Height?
Post by: Jace on September 02, 2013, 12:38:32 AM
If you start on T when you're still growing, will it increase your growth? I'm short, 5'3, but I'm still growing despite being almost 18. I never had a growth spurt, instead I've just been slowly gaining a centimeter every couple months. Freshman year I was only 5'. Most likely though, I'm gonna stay this height or at best make it to 5'4ish. So I'm wondering if I start T while I'm still growing if that will have any affect on my height?

My family is a bit odd growth wise. I take after my grandmother a lot and she grew two more inches after high school. I wish I could start T now haha, but I can't even get up the guts to come out to my parents so by the time I do it'll most likely be too late for it change my height.

Also thanks, it did help.

My parents aren't very accepting of lgbt people though. I've tested the waters a bit and it's never good, especially my mom. My dad at least understands that it's a real thing, he just thinks it's the "devil" causing it. I promise my parents aren't religious nutjobs but they come across like it when I talk about a few of the things they've said. Just uggg they're great parents, I just had to have the one issue that they'd have a problem with. I need to talk to my therapist about it again.

just blocking the e will make your growth period last longer. more t won't necessarily help, i've a feeling male and female puberty are around the same length, the guys just start a little later. growth without sex hormones is slow but stops much later, so a person with insufficient amounts of sex hormones will be short when other kids hit puberty, but will often end up taller in the end. those who hit puberty too early might outgrow other kids for a while and then suddenly stop just a little shorter than what the other kids will become.

if you've grown slowly because of too little e, the t might give you a nice puberty-like growth spurt, but i'm not sure how likely that is to be the case. i managed to grow one single inch between 12 and 19. my puberty probably started when i was ten, maybe even a little younger.

Wait lack of it... so wait, am I shorter and did I grow slower because of lack of T, or lack or E? xD or both... I don't get it xD
excess testosterone in a male will be tuned into estradiol through aromatase. a teenage boy is supposed to have enough testosterone that he both has a good growth spurt, and the extra estradiol will eventually make him stop growing.

You probably won't grow much more. But then again, I stopped growing when I was 11...that was quite the letdown.

I've stopped trying to predict exactly what my body is doing growth wise XD people vary so much. it all has to do with genetics.

i have an aunt who was 22 and she grew like 3 inches for no reason. and then for me, I'm 5'10" but I still have little spurts of growth and i am 18. ( i also have a higher level of t in my system from pcos :P ) but most of girl friends stopped somewhere their sophomore junior year. so it all depends. I've heard stories on here of even the 20 somethings growing a bit. so you might.
