Title: Hotlines
Post by: Beth Andrea on September 02, 2013, 10:34:16 PM
Anyone ever use one of these suicide hotlines?

Tell me what it was like, and was it useful?

And please don't ask why I am asking. Thx

I used the Samaritans which is based in the UK and I hated every minute of it. The lady didn't speak hardly at all and despite me telling her I can't sleep at night because if my suicidal thoughts and stuff, she told me I should go to sleep and hung up shortly after (it was 1am and I don't usually sleep until about 5am). I just found it all a bit pointless and I'd never phone one again. However, in terms of usefulness, somebody pointed out something before, it must of helped a bit, because otherwise I wouldn't still be here.

I know you said not to ask why, so I won't, but I am offering you to message me if you ever need to talk in confidence.

Thanks Joey.

None of my emotionals right now are trans related, and I wouldn't want to trigger others with any details. I se my the*apist on Friday, and am considering the hotline as a possible short-term...lifeline (pls don't read too much into that)...to allow some venting of emotional energy so it doesn't eat me up.

*hugs*

It doesn't matter if they're not trans related at all. Also, if you don't want to trigger anyone with the details you can always PM me if you just want to vent and somebody to listen. Yeah hotlines can be good, it just depends what one you go through and the person you speak to at the time. We only have 1 official one in the UK but I believe your options are varied I think?

Big hugs to you Beth, I'm always here for a chat if you need to.
