Title: Strange taste in my mouth. Anyone else ever get this?
Post by: suzifrommd on September 12, 2013, 01:03:36 PM
I have an unpleasant bitter taste in my mouth today. I tried rinsing it out, and it has survived several glasses of water. I had a full lunch and it is still there, so it is not something physical in my mouth - that would surely have been washed down/away.

So I went to some medical sites and looked up the symptom. Nothing was a remote possibility except that some female hormonal levels can cause a bitter taste.

I haven't changed my hormone routine since early July. My daily hormones are not unusual - just standard (on the high side) doses of estradiol and spiro twice a day.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Im on high dose EV IM weekly, and a day or two after my shots i sometimes get a funky metallic-ish bitter taste in my mouth.....sometimes its random, my only guess is sometimes it spikes into the bloodstream? Idk, but my dr tells me dont worry about it, it can also be related to my multivit.

Do you put the e under your tongue? I read that placing the e under your tongue can increase your levels quickly.

No, I just swallow it down with fluids.

Just put it under your tongue and let it dissolve. Sometimes Spiro can taste kind of funky. That may be part of your problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think it was the taste of the spiro, because water would have washed it down.

Re: taking the estradiol sublingually, I feel uncomfortable going against my doctor's instructions and the instructions that came with the pills.

Thank you Dayna. It's good to know someone else has had a similar experience.

I started HRT a week ago and haven't noticed anything like this. However, I do have an alternative theory. By any chance, have you eatten anything with pine nuts in it? A bitter taste in the mouth after eating pine nuts happens in a large minority of people. I am one of those people and I can tell you it is unpleasant and it lasts for several days for some reason.

Has your blood sugar been checked lately? Some new diabetics develop a metallic or lead taste and a thirst that just won't quit (mostly with high sugar). Also, If you wake in the morning with a severely dry throat and mouth it could be a sign of a diabetic condition as well. I would get your sugar checked just to be on the safe side unless your physician already monitors it.
