Title: Your name
Post by: Exus on September 16, 2013, 06:33:51 PM
I saw the ladies made a thread about this, so I'm curious.

How did you guys choose your name?

I always loved the name Alexander.  My middle name, Matthew, just suddenly popped into my head one day at my old job.  My brain just suddenly screamed ALEXANDER MATTHEW.

Well Parker is the name of agent booths kid on "Bones" which is where I first heard it as a first name so when my friend and I were talking about names I brought it up and she thought it suited me so she started calling me it

My birthname is my grandmothers' names, so I wanted to honour that by making my name my grandfathers' names. Turns out it was the same name I would have been named had I been born male, so it works out pretty well!

I wanted a name that was somewhat familiar but still not the exact "masculine" version of my birth name, so I went with Lucas.

Wow, my birthname is also my grandmas name but I was never happy about it. I came up with mine when I was in 4th grade. I use to know a boy named Matthew and admired him, in a way I "wished" I was him and not who I was. Since then I kept the name in the back of my mind and when I came out to my mother, I told her what name I wanted. She likes it and agrees with it so why not.
I would go for my grandfathers name but it's an old/ancient name (those names they used back in the days) so I didn't want it. My mom also said she wouldn't name me after him

Nice, the name Alexander is nice x) I go by Matt but officially I'll change it to Matthew and nickname "matt"

When I was a kid my family nickname was Chris(it's a shortened version of my female name.)  So I decided to go with the masculine form of my female name, Christian.  My favorite male name is Marcus so it's my middle name.

I always liked the letter E and names that began with E, and my first celebrity crush was Elijah Wood. So I just tried out the name and it just fits perfectly for me. I never really experienced the feeling of loving my name before transition, but now every time anyone uses my name its just music to my ears. :)

I picked the name Brayden because for one its pretty close to my birth name and also while reading through a name list I also found out that it means brave and to be able to go through a transition like this we have to be brave. Also (this doesn't have to do with why I picked it) but I found out later on it was what my dad wanted to name me anyways if I had been born a boy to begin with.

My birth name was Ashley and though I've never liked that name I loved the nickname Ash. It just sounds like pure awesome to me. So I toyed with two names Ashton and Asher (didn't give too much thought to Ryan which would have been my name). Ashton seems like the name of a nice guy and Asher sounds like a bad ass... so I was true to myself and took the nice guy name. After that I asked my parents to give me a new middle name and they gave me Patrick. Full name is Ashton Patrick Brunn which I'm really proud with. Can't wait to make it legal in the next couple months.

My first name is basically the male version of my old name. Funny how much changing the last letter of the name does. :D I have the same middle name as my grandfather (the only one I've ever known because I'm not in contact with my biological father or his family) which isn't even close to my old middle name. Thus, I legally became Lauri Johannes on October 12th 2012. :)

My mom chose Simon out of a list of names I gave her. My middle name is Vincent simply because it flows well with Simon. I changed my last name as well but it's an old family name.

It's strange after awhile that the name you choose does become your normal. I had mine legally changed almost 12 years ago. Now when my birth name pops up (rarely does) it's kinda like that person never existed...I feel no connection at all to that old name.

When I where younger I enjoyed to writte and do comics like I still do, I got 2 storys with characters where I used myself as the inspiration (I often do that now but back then it was a new way to writte.)

one character A who was the first I used for my own inspiration, and abit later character B

I started to use the name of character A online because I where male online chatting with people and so. then I wanted to change my name for real and I had to choose between A or B. I choosed A because it was legal in my country and B was kinda complicated for me to get.

Well I chose Evan first because it wasn't too masculine and it was short like my birth name. However, after 5 months on T, I don't feel like it fits me so after a couple days of debate I think I will change it to Colton Evander. I like Colton because I can have a nickname of Cole (plus it means town of cole or to have cole black hair) and Evander because then people can still call me Evan if they want. I like nicknames if you can't tell.

I always hated my birth name (Emily), so I opted for one that didn't sound the same. I got the idea for my name because one of the water management projects I worked on had a Trenton street. I usually go by Trent, but I will change my first name to Trenton legally though.

As for middle names I always liked the name David, so I picked that.

My 'make believe boy name' has always been Benjamin Jacob. I don't remember why I decided on that because I was very very  young. As I got older, I'd pretend that I was a boy in chatrooms and when people would call me Ben or Benjamin it made me feel really happy.

About a year ago I suddenly realized that I'd inadvertently chosen a name that good, strong men in my family had. Benjamin was my maternal great uncle's name. Jacob was my paternal grandfather's name. When I decided I was transgender I looked up the meaning of both names and it started me how they describe me perfectly.

A google search says that the guy who played Donnie Darko has the same name as me, although his name is Jacob Benjamin.

Crazy!  I'm Alexander, and depending on how my parents take it I might go with Matthew as one of my middle names because that's what they would have called me if I'd been born correctly.

I chose Alexander because I always wanted a name that could be shortened and began with 'A' after having a name that began with 'Z' for so long, sort a beginning and ending thing, a fresh start.  I originally started going by Adam, but the name Alex kept bugging at me, and I ended up choosing that instead after a year or so, and it was definitely the right decision, Alex had been a name I'd wanted people to call me when I was twelve, but it never stuck.  After choosing Luke as a middle name I realised months later that it was a name I'd pretended was my middle name when I was primary school as well, which is a funny connection.  I just liked it as a middle name at the time.

I was determined to keeping my initials, so I glanced at a list of names starting with that letter and picked the one i liked the sound of the best.

It's close to my birth name (but not the male equivalent which I actually included in my middle name). I think I have always liked the name. It keeps the same initials, which was important to me.

I chose the name Alec Benjamin, but my mom prefers the name Alex because it's neutral and she's still having a hard time accepting me. She still wont use either, she said she would for a while but then I tried to commit suicide again and she stopped using it and only just agreed to stop calling me girl, so I'm to scared to push it. So all in all i don't know which my name is going to be, I want it to be Alec, but if I have to choose between my mom calling me Alex or my birth name i'll got with Alex easily.

I wanted to keep my initials at first and stay close to my birth name which is Valerie but if you've looked at the list of male V names there aren't much to choose from and none seemed to fit. So then I just randomly picked a name that I always liked which was Felix. But that didn't seem to fit, I just wasn't a Felix. I also wanted something a bit more androgynous. So I finally chose Jace. I remember reading some book with that name and I just really liked it and it really suited me.

I still don't have a middle name. Maybe I'll go with my great-uncles name's Otto or my other great-uncle Bernhardt. Or maybe Valiant so I can sneak that V in there.
