Hello everyone,
I've been reading (lurking) this site for a few weeks now but have been hesitant to register/post for I am not transgendered and wasn't sure how I would be received here. My name is Ricky, and I am from Illinois, but have been living part time in Washington D.C and Florida for most of this year. Anyways, a close friend of mine has been living as a woman for a few years now and I find her to be a beautiful woman and person. However, as she has gone through the transformation things have slowly deteriorated much to my dismay. I know she is going through something unimaginably difficult, and I'm doing my best to be a good friend, but it's as if any sort of criticism or dissent I may convey is taken as a personal attack on her. She knows I am not some close minded jerk for I've even dated one of her friends that was a passable MTF. We didn't work out but it wasn't because she was transgender at all. Nevertheless, it's as if I question any of her life decisions or am being honest (which I would expect of her towards me) I get accused of not understanding anything she's going through... Idk, I feel like I'm ranting now. I guess I just want to say hello, and I hope to get a better understanding of the struggles she is going through by getting to know some of you and your stories....

It is best to let her know you are her friend and you support her. Let her know you might make mistakes, but you don't want to appear hurtful or mean. You are trying your best to understand.

Thanks for the response... I try to be an open and understanding friend, just sometimes feels like I'm the whipping post for the pent up frustrations and anger towards how others have treated her.

Sometimes we do need someone to just let us vent. By trying to remember that it might not be you. Ask questions and offer a hug.
Just want to say hello to you Ricky. You are more than welcome here.
Sometimes a person in transition is in need of a objective outside opinion. Your friend is lucky to have you, whether she realizes it or not.
