Title: 40k anyone?
Post by: Keely Mcbain on September 21, 2013, 03:30:17 AM
Hello.

So I was wondering...who plays warhammer 40k?

I've been modeling for about 3 years and playing for 2. I started with a quaint little Ork army and have recently started a Tau army.

What about you? Can't wait to hear what you've got.

I like to pick up the paint brush from time to time, more for the painting/modelling aspect than gaming, played loads of 2nd ed and Necromunda when I was a kid but not so much now.  I've played a few games in 5th ed but not tried 6th yet (I kinda got distracted by the whole growing boobs thingy, looking to actually get a game soon now that I'm full time).

I'm currently trying to put together an exodite eldar army, fully converted using bits from fantasy elves/eldar/dark eldar and lizardmen - elves dinosaurs with laser guns attached, I watched too much Dinoriders when I was younger!  I'm also slowly putting together a Nurgle chaos marine army (those forgeworld bits look astounding when painted!), which I'll probably end up playing with first as I want to play with fully painted armies only.

Saw some of the new Tau stuff, that Riptide thingy looks like loads of fun to put together!

I Go for the painting and modeling more as well.

I am currently planning to buy a Space Marine Dreadnought and converting it into a deffdread ( I like to call it a Deff-Dreadnought - Lame I know)
by making the front look like it's been torn apart and has had an ork stuffed in there.

I'll soon be assembling a Riptide together as well. ( It DOES look like a lot of fun! )
I've also been thinking of buying some Space marine HQ's and making a Spacemarine- Avengers Crossover.

Cool, looted ork stuff generally looks awesome, you seen some of the looted carnifexs that people have done?  There are a few corkers out there!

Yeah, I had a little Tau army years ago and would of loved one of those things (loves me some giant robots, i do, I blame the 80's)

Still debating with myself on picking up a Wraithknight to have fun with, I've done some Transformers (as I said, giant robots ;D) customising in the past and reckon I could make it fully posable quite easily!

I ran into an Image of one of those the other day. I was amazed and baffled over how the Orks, talented as they are, could have looted one of those things. though they probably Captured it and tamed it. still Impressive though.

Optimus prime fighting alongside the Eldar. that...would....be....AMAZING!
And the Avengers/ Space marine thing...

I too play 40k, which by that i spend waaaay more money than i ever should on little plastic men, i think when some girls do that they at least get a vibration feature. I have a fully fleshed out 4k+ Ultramarines, Imperial Guard, Tau, Dark Eldar, and a smattering of Chaos. While i certainly enjoy the game aspect of it i dont often get to play so the modelling is where I get my enjoyment. My wife is almost always getting mad at me for the amount of random collections of paint and models strewn about the house.

almost forgot, Riptide was one of the more enjoyable models i ever built. Not only did all the parts fit perfectly but you had a million different poses ans ways to assemble it. Just make sure you dont glue the torso to the legs for easy transport. Also, magnetize! The newer stuff is alot more user friendly then lets say, the dreaded DROP POD. With the new codex im looking at investing in a stormraven because i can get one of those for the same price as 34 centurions, and why the heck wouldnt i buy a huge awesome flyer instead?

;D  I too have got far too many sprues with half the bits gone kicking around the house, though I have managed to cut out the transformer collecting...

A lot of my friends used to complain about how it was so expensive being a girl, well they want to try being a geeky girl!  Shoe sales, clothes sales are nothing compared to the might of STEAM SALES...the number of used items I own from all 3 is silly!  (no GW sales though EVER!!!!)

Will do, though it may be a few days due to GTA V and the aforementioned steam sales - Awesomenauts is far too addictive!

Just be glad you don't live in a soulless farming area. Not only am I miles away from anything, its next to impossible to get a game of 40k on without having to drive for an hour. plus its full of wanna be "California types" who forget they live on dairies instead of Orange County. On the other hand, i loves your models, do you use Optimus as a Gargant or a Looted vehicle? And do you use Shockwave as a Riptide?

I may as well live in the middle of nowhere when it comes to getting a game in, I'd rather play at a house with friends than go to the local GW and game, unfortunately none of my friends have their own armies and I only want to use fully painted figs, I'll get 2 armies complete eventually!

The prime isn't mine unfortunately :(
The shockwave was just something I did for display purposes, I have quite a large collection of the "Classics" style figures (along with a fair few 3rd party figs), G1 transformers in general kinda saw me through the 80's, I didn't fit in too well with the local kids (now I know why!)

So have a look and tell me what ya think.

I call it a Deff-Dreadnought. Silly name, I know.
It's only one model that has been Photoshopped like this at the insistence of my mother. Coming soon to an Internet with you! A picture of this model Painted!
Have fun!

Looking awesome so far!  Can't wait to see it painted, unfortunately I've only got my iPhone for pics at the mo, and it isn't really that fantastic at getting close ups on small things :(

Soon though!!  I'm attempting to give up smoking weed so hopefully I'll be a productive little bunny to keep my mind off it...

Neat. I used to play 40k and kept several armies. I'm into Warmachine, Hordes, Malifaux, Dust, and Infinity now. After GW and privateer press I probably won't be buying into any new mass combat games. Skirmish games seem like a far more affordable concept for me these days.

Hopefully this works but it's a painting commission that I completed for some tabletop quality figures for an imperial guard army. http://photobucket.com/albums/b75/Harliquine/FrederickCommision (http://photobucket.com/albums/b75/Harliquine/FrederickCommision)

Nice work, really liked the scratching on the Russ :)
Though I did spot a Chimera in there which could of down with paint being thinned down a tad more...I've been using airbrush/spray gun to get a light, even coating.

So I found some pics of the last lot of stuff I was working on, Dark Vengeance and Forgeworld based nurgle army, still very much a work in progress mostly...

I wouldn't say I "play it" (present tense), but I certainly used to love playing (past tense) when I was younger (around 2nd and 3rd ed era IIRC) and I'd *LOVE* to get back into it again :D  I started getting back into it again a couple of years ago but then we moved house and this place is *TINY* so there's literally nowhere for me even to get my stuff out much less actually work on them :(

I was never that good at the game itself (lost far more than I won lol) but I loved the painting and modelling side of things, as well as the lore.  I've still got my Slaaneshian Chaos army packed up complete with 2 full units of Daemonettes, the Forgeworld version of the Keeper of Secrets (this one (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/KEEPER-OF-SECRETS-GREATER-DAEMON-OF-SLAANESH.html)) and an Emperors Children Sonic Dreadnaught (this one (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Chaos/CHAOS_DREADNOUGHTS_AND_WALKERS/EMPEROR'S-CHILDREN-SONIC-DREADNOUGHT.html)).  Also made some pretty wicked conversions using Sisters of Battle for a Noise Marine unit and Daemonette heads on a couple of my Terminator squads...

...Lol as I said in my introduction post here at Susan's: I've only put two and two together recently about my gender, but when I look back at stuff like this it's pretty damn obvious the writing has been on the wall for *YEARS* :D

When I (*HOPEFULLY*) move out with my best mate sometime next year, I (and in fact - *WE*, as he wants to get back into it too) will get it all out again and get our armies back on their feet.  One of the first things I'm absolutely *DYING* to do is build a pair of Chaos Reaver Titans in the same sort of ballpark as this gorgeous thing:

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.dakkadakka.com%2Fgallery%2F2011%2F11%2F18%2F296219_md-Titan%252026_1.jpg&hash=6d2e491ec9d4450166d1460644f456fddcbe5622)
(link to the guy's project (http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?p=1&u=10092&g=9982&ll=3&auction=0&unapproved=0&coolnesslow=0&coolnesshigh=10&paintjoblow=0&paintjobhigh=10&sort1=7&sort2=0&skip=30&en=&st=&utype=&start=0))

Obviously that one's Nurgle so I'm going to Slaaneshify them with the standard pink+black colour scheme, Slaanesh iconography and Warp Amps / other sonic stuff (considering putting a small pair of bluetooth speakers in them so I can actually play music from them!  How cool would that be? :P ).  I've even got names for them: "Rhapsody" and "Harmony".  Fitting, right? ;D <333

Great looking models. I played in 4th and 5th edition. I have completed elder and grey knight/sisters armies. I have tons I thought looked cool, but never got them painted. Although I recently got a wraithknight and I will paint it. I don't know if I will ever play again tho. Have any of you ever tried heroclix?

It imploded here too after going strong for 10+ years. We play home games of clix and x-wing here. That's about it tho. Everyone gave up on 40K. A lot of us bought infinity, but work, kids, ect. Everyone is too busy to play.
