Title: update
Post by: Bookworm on September 21, 2013, 04:25:30 PM
Well I had my first visit with a counselor or therapist. Hell I am not sure what the real difference is. Not the point though. I had my first visit Monday. I will have another one this following Monday. I don't think that they are a gender specialist, but they are free for me here at uni, so I shall use them while I can.

Aww, glad to hear there is some progress! I've been waiting for you to update us.  Congrats on starting therapy. :)

Yeah there has not been a whole lot of progress until now. I am glad that I am making some progress if a little slow.

Well my second appointment was last Monday. It went well. We have talked a good bit about everything. I still don't know where this will lead but I hope it is to a good place.

I posted that half awake on my phone. I just corrected it. We have put everything on the table. We have not talked about it in depth, but that is more because there are other issues I have to talk about. She does know that I am trans, or at least that I have the dysphoria. We are also talking about sexuality. The problem is that I am not great at talking to people about it.

It's healthy to focus on other things as well.  I would say 25 percent of therapy sessions have been about gender and the rest of it has all been other issues that impact my transition and overall life improvements.

On the sexuality front, there is no problem talking about it, but make sure your therapist is aware of the separation between gender and sexuality.

I will keep that in mind when I see her next. I cant wait. It just sucks that it is in a few weeks. She is out of town at the moment. Otherwise my next visit would be today.

Glad you're getting there. Do you know if yours uses WPATH or Tom Waddell standards? WPATH wants to talk too much. Thought I would die a natural death before I got the HRT letter. :)

I have no idea. I am pretty sure I am the first transgender person they have ever dealt with. It is the therapist the school provides.
