Title: Progesterone and breast changes
Post by: kathyk on September 25, 2013, 08:00:11 AM
So been taking progesterone for almost two weeks and these breasts feel fuller, but obviously it's only been two weeks so they won't look any different for a while, if ever.  It seemed everyone said they saw changes at certain points while taking progesterone, but were there any precursor feelings of the breast changes?  Oh yeah, I have no side effects !

Anyway I'll wait around till tomorrow afternoon for comments and replies on this, then start concentrating on my improvement, and personal challenges.  As always, too much to do, not enough time, and you know...life is good.  Probably be back in three or four weeks.  There's a lot on my plate right now, good and bad.  But hey, it's all manageable.  ;)

Progesterone acts in conjunction with estrogen and whatever androgen blocker that you're taking to stimulate breast growth. It's pretty much a coin toss, medically, as to whether you'll see results or not by adding it into the regimen. Without the other two, obviously, there won't be any growth but you already knew that.

All that said, development is a mixed bag. You can pretty much guess that you'll be about your mom's size minus one cup size due to the larger area in the chest to cover with mammary tissue. It's not a hard and fast rule but it's a good general guideline.

For timeframe, everyone's development varies but the general rule is that the first year, things go quickly. You'll know that things are happening because they'll get reallllllly tender around the areola and you may or may not feel twinges of discomfort, itchiness, or sharp aches when they start developing in earnest. It took about eight weeks for mine to start doing their thing but they're still growing very slowly even now at a few years in.

Give it time, chick, this is going to be a long ride and there's a lot to it. Concentrate on the day to day business of living life, working through your internal journey, and working through your relationships with others. I know that the pace that things happen at isn't always super fun to deal with because you want it all right now but, yeah, it'll happen in its own time.

My endo said we should expect to wait at least a year before we know if it's doing anything.

I've been doing the "P thing" (progesterone cream, otc) for about a month and a half (3 weeks on, one week off)...on the days I do it I can feel a difference in the breasts. Hard to quantify, but yeah they feel "fuller" especially when I take off my bra.

On the off days, I don't get that feeling. I do notice that there's fewer gaps in the cups of the bra...not that there was much before, but there's almost none on the "on" days.

My doctor said she doesn't want me taking it if nothing much happens in six months.  I have a prescription for three months with one refill.  Keeping fingers crossed.

A mixed bag is a understatement. My mom was a DDD before she had her breast reduction when I was younger and my sister is a good D if not a DD. I used to go by that "1 less cup than mom" theory but I think that it's more true with girls in their teens and early 20's transitioning. I started HRT at 19 and stopped and picked up again at 29. I'm about b cup. If I could get anywhere close to my mom I'd probably die from sheer delight. But realistically speaking I won't hold my breath. I don't think the progesterone would make a difference either way.
