Hey all,
Does anyone know if there are any interactions between hrt meds (spiro and estradiol) and diet pills (specifically alli pills). Do they negatively impact one another? Do the diet pills interfere with breast development and fat redistribution? I'm looking to lose a little weight, not go overboard, but would like to lose it quickly. I'm not fat but could stand to lose a little weight, which would make me feel better, and dieting on one meal a day is getting frustrating. I've lost hardly anything despite my attempts to lose it. So, please let me know if anyone is aware of interactions. Thanks.

My guess is they probably would effect HRT negatively depending on how much weight is being stopped. Eventually though, I feel like it won't hurt you 'too' much.
If you give me the full name I can look it up and ask my endo about this in a couple hours when I talk to her.
Yeah, that's wht I'm concerned about. The pills I'm looking at are called "alli". They sell them at CVS. Do they have that store in your area? For some reason I'm thinking that you are from the UK and realize our chain stores differ.
Here are the ingredients if it does any good. "Active Ingredient (in Each Sealed Capsule): Orlistat (60 mg). Inactive Ingredients: FD&C Blue 2, Edible Ink, Gelatin, Iron Oxide, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Povidone, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Starch Glycolate, Talc, Titanium Dioxide."

That's strange, makes sense, but strange. I live in California, have for most of my life. :P
I'll see what she has to say about it, I have the appointment in an hour and a half, so we'll see!

Lol, for some reason I really thought you were from the UK. Well there are so many people here, so it's easy to get confused. Still, I'm in NY, so you may as well be in the UK as you are so far away, lol. :P

Nah, not from the UK, never been. I was raised in an English house, though! xD
Some diet pills are diuretic and when combined with spiro which is also a diuretic could cause an unsafe drop in. Lood pressure. Most doctors don't advocTe diet pills because thye are not fda approved and not subjected to rigorous testing

Yeah, I thought of that too. Allie, the pill I am considering, is apparently FDA approved. That isn't saying much as the FDA is pretty much bought out in many ways, but it is certainly better for it to have their approval than not. I'll have to keep checking. Unfortunately, there isn't much info on this from what I have seen.
Allie was a formally prescription only weight loss pill that is now considered safe enough to be sold over the counter.
It's main effect is to prevent the absorption of fat by the body.
If you regularly don't eat a lot of fatty foods, it won't help much.

Thanks. I'm starting to think it is a bad idea in general. I probably should just readjust my diet. Usually, I eat one meal a day with a little snacking. Also, I'm a vegetarian but never really make sure I'm eating the right things (nutrition and nutrient wise). I doubt I've been eating a healthy or balanced diet in the past couple of years. I'm probably better off finding a healthy diet that keeps me properly nourished and allows me to lose weight. Eh... I hate the hard work involved in losing weight.

1 meal with frequent snacking is generally a very good way to lose weight, depending on how often and how big said snacks are. I'd recommend getting some multi-vitamins.

Eh... hasn't been working for me. Honestly, I don't eat much, so I don't get why I can't shake the weight. It's not terrible, but it's annoying.
As said earlier, it stops the adsorption of fat. I don't know what kind of estrogen you are on nor are there any studies of Orlistat and adsorption of estrogen or a spironolactone. It does concern me a little that there may be a problem there but I am in no way certain. I do know it can give you diarrhea.
I'm closing in on 85 lbs lost. It's diet and exercise. Lot's of exercise....

Yeah, I decided it may not be a good move. I'm just going to look up a healthy vegetarian diet. It's time I start eating a well balanced diet rather than a malnourished diet. After all, I have always wanted to learn to cook (well, more than I already know), so it can be a fun experiment. The exercising.... not so much. I don't mind going on the treadmill for a half an hour, but anything more is just annoying.
I have been on alli for 2 years. Only take 1 pill per meal. Do not eat high fat meals and alli.
I had a high fat meal 1 time and took 3 alli. Do not do this! What ever you do, do not do this. You will not digest the fat and you will have liquid fat bowl movements with little control.
I take a lot of supplements in the morning and many are fats and I eat granola a low fat meal. I do not take alli in the morning so I can absorb the good fats.
