how'd you all choose your names ? ;D
honestly, I had always known what name i wanted. since the 1st grade. I have always loved the name scott.. and except I thought it would be cooler as Skott so thats how I chose my name. That is how I identified myself to my online friends when it was literally the only time I could feel like myself.
I used the name that my Mother would have given me had I been born with female parts, and the middle name that I would have given to a daughter if I had ever had one.
Eh... I still don't have a name, other than the unisex version of my given one. It's frustrating, but there are so many good names out there. I just need to find the one that says me. I'll be watching this thread.
yeah its really hard I have one for a few days and hear a better one , Im trying to find the ONE lol
I've always loved the name Alexander, and the middle name (Matthew) just came to me all of a sudden. Although I am trying to decide between Matthew or Julian. I also go by Mara which is the short version of my fursona Amaterasu. And yes, for those Japan buffs out there, that is a girl spirit. But there is a long story behind why I am a boy Minccino with a girl name.
I used my first initial of my male name as a start. I thought I would keep my initials the same. There aren't a lot of females names that start with P that I like so I chose Paige.
I guess I should figure out how to change my profile name to that.
I tried several different names. The name my parents would have given me if they'd recognized that I was girl is my daughter's middle name, so adopting that seemed weird to me. Besides, I don't think it fits who I am now, all these years later.
I don't know how I came up with Katherine, but it is a name in my family - an aunt and a great grandmother. I slid my male first name over to be my new middle name. I have some regrets about doing that but don't want to bother with another name change.
It was my friends who insisted on calling me Kate instead of Katherine. I like being Kate. :icon_flower:
- me
I picked my name from a song that I absolutely love.
A friend named me.

Thanks, when I asked her about it, she said her daughter was going to be Shannon or Devlyn. Shannon won, and when she got a chance she decided to apply Devlyn to me.

your lucky to have such a supportive friend :)
My name just magically popped into my head and it sounded so right. :)
You just need to remember, this isn't a forum handle of a gamer tag, pick a name you think actually makes sense.
Because ideally, it is what you will want to be on documents, and things like identification.
Me, I altered the variation of my first name, and added a letter to my second name. Most go with something totally new, but, me, I like the sound of my name.
Just remember, it is something that once you select, will be only slightly less difficult to get rid of than a bad idea tattoo.

?? I was just starting a thread I thought people might have fun stories behind ideas or reasons in the form of great stories why
My first and middle name are Doctor Who characters, I kept my last name which is from a different sci-fi show.
Amy
Oops sorry, I thought you had a different idea in mind :)
In my case, as I said, it is my actual name, merely modified.
Side benefit, everyone uses Les, and as such, I actually have no trouble getting people to call me by my real name aka the name I prefer. I hear Les and I think Lesley, I am not worried they might be thinking Leslie in their own head, I just need to hear it my way :)
Now if I can get them to also use she and her etc etc
Mine came from a NATURE'S FURY in the form of a HURRICANE.
How my life felt at the moment. I just changed it up so it was more mine.
Isabell
My name was primarily chosen to honour someone's memory who is no longer with us. That and I've always felt drawn to it, and similar sounding names. Never figured out why, though.
I have always been Cindy. It was the name I used as a child to my parents, teachers and everyone's confusion!
My male name I was forced to bear
It has now been expunged!
Cindy
People always called me by my last name, I preferred it that way, and my middle name is also a last name. So, conveniently, I changed my first name to my last name and then dropped the last name... does that make sense?
okay this might be the third or fourth time i'm posting about my name, but i love bragging about it! for some magical reason, my parents have given me a male name! actually, there are girls with the same name, but it's more common among males, like when i say my name to somebody they'd say 'oh that's my nephew's name/ son's name/ neighbour's son etc. so all my legal documents contain the same name and i decided not to change it, as it'd save me a lot of trouble. but in case i find it too feminine some day, i might drop the last two letters and it'd be totally male. people close to me call me by a nickname, a shorter version of my name which is gender neutral, so i don't think it'd trouble me. BUT, my middle name, i'm gonna shoot it down once i start transition. i hate everybody who calls me that. online however, i prefer going by my initials, just like here.

awesome I have a unisex name , but it needs to be respelt , however I do want a new name , new beginnings and all :)
My birth name was unmistakably female so it had to go. I never identified with it and it always seemed jarring to have people refer to me by such a girly name. I'm glad it's gone.
I started insisting that I was a boy when I was five years old. I even called myself 'George' at the time, after the character in The Famous Five, because she was the closest I could find to someone like me.
But after several years of me constantly insisting that I was a boy, my mother announced in exasperation that she had been convinced during her pregnancy with me that she was carrying a boy, so she & my dad had agreed to name me after my two grandfathers. Of course, I was born with female anatomy so they had to pick a different name for me instead... but I never forgot the story of what my parents had originally intended to name me.
So when I decided to correct the mistake that had been made when I was born, I decided to go back to the original name my parents had intended to give me if I'd been born with the correct anatomy. It seemed like an excellent way of healing some of the wounds caused by my being misgendered at birth. So I am named after both of my grandfathers.
i still haven't changed my name, but i probably will some time in the future.
when that happens, i'll just switch my middle name for something else. my given name is a female name, but i'm not too binary, and i like how it's associated with the wisdom of odin and the conflict loving side of freya. not that most people get the connection there, the name's too old, but i know it and that's all that matters to me. it's also often misheard as a common male name. when i get a middle name, it will be one associated with thor.

you're calling the one who lights the heavens, the sun herself, a mere spirit?!
don't you think that a true female equivalent of re deserves to at least be called a goddess...?
I feel in love with the name Jessica the first time I heard it, if I had a daughter she would have been called Jessica but I haven't so it's my name now and I love it
