Title: Unwanted Erections
Post by: Jasriella on October 14, 2013, 12:31:01 PM
It's not that I don't enjoy making love or some self servicing when the day is done, but getting hard constantly is starting to drive me insane. I make do with what I've got till nature's mistake can be fixed but something's got to be done I can't be having this all day at work.

Is there something I can do to make this stop besides an expensive bilateral orchiectomy?

I was about to post this after class.
I've noticed that since I've come to terms with myself, my number of unwanted spontaneous erections had increased. It feels like my body is fighting back and doesn't want me to transition.

As for the orchiectomy, I've read that many surgeons won't perform SRS on you if you've had one, so it's not necessarily a good idea

I didn't know abut that little detail, I wonder why. Ive heard of some surgeons encouraging it.

But yeah, it's like the little guy down there knows he won't be there for long and is rebelling.

That's exactly what our feels like.
The worst part is these don't want to go away either. I once had to sit in an awkward position for nearly an hour waiting it would go away, hoping nobody would see.

Unwanted erections have disappeared pretty much for me.  Hrt does the trick. Still get the occasional morning one but those are dependent on what I was dreaming.

I'd like to start HRT but I have a countdown in my signature, that's how long it's going to be till I can start that. My antidepressant medication pretty much eliminated my ability to get an erection but I felt so... just not myself on them. There should be something else I can do though?

Have you considered starting just the Spiro part of HRT?  That's the one that blocks Testosterone.  Taking away T slows down libido, which slows down erections.  I have heard of some who experience an increase in erections on Spiro, but I'd guess that is a "last hurrah" which would be short lived.  There is some feminizing that comes from just blocking Androgens, but it's not much, and it would stop further masculinizing.  Plus, T is offensive to my MTF brain, I'm so happy to be rid of it.

I'm curious, maybe you've discussed this elsewhere and I missed it, why do you have so many years until you can start transition?
So is Spiro a prescription medication or something I can get over the counter?

And the reason I have to wait so long is I'm still in the military and as it stands transgendered people are considered defective enough to be discharged once found out.

There's been many a thread on this topic, even a couple from me.

Before my T was squashed, it was difficult to control erections. However, I managed to get them partially under control by immediately going through number problems in my head as soon as any arousal hit. That really was quite effective at the time :).

Spiro is indeed a prescription.  It is prescribed for a great many things, including high blood pressure and Edema (swelling due to fluid retention).  If you think you could be straight up (no pun intended) with a military doctor and not wind up being outted, s/he might find a way to prescribe Spiro under one of the other diagnoses it's used for.  Maybe if you just complained about the frequent erections a doctor would prescribe something that works in a similar manner to Spiro without ever mentioning your trans concerns.  Finasteride (and it's cousin Dutasteride) is a possibility as well, which is used to prevent or reverse hair loss in males.  If your family tree has male pattern baldness, that's a very valid concern for your transition someday.

P.S. Have you ever heard of Saltpeter?

I'm not sure, but I've long wondered if the slang term for Potassium Nitrate means just what it says.
Lol saltpeter is a compound in gunpowder and used to be added to the food in the military back in the day.

Anyway, I don't use a military doctor since I'm National Guard.... Actually I don't have a primary health care provider since the one I had moved out of state. I might be able to try Spiro. I really like the idea of blocking testosterone like that.

Spiro pretty much killed them for me too.  They can still happen, but only on my terms

What's so bad about getting kicked out if you get to be you?

Money, I presume. It's a pretty stable job.
Also, if dishonourably discharged, there's no benefits; no stipend, no healthcare, no GI bill, it's a pretty tough thing to go through.

because if I get kicked out at all I'll have to pay back a total of $11,000 that the miltary gave me to go to college. If I stick it out I'll keep all my VA benifits and not have to pay bac my tuition.

I can't stand them one bit. I haven't started HRT and I have no idea when I will get to but I have noticed a big improvement once I began living at home as myself. I don't know if it's the frame of mind that I'm in or if it's something else but really they have gone way down and it's been months since I've had any urge to do anything with it if you know what I mean :-\
