Title: Non-binary school stories: a request
Post by: Padma on October 15, 2013, 06:33:12 AM
I've been in touch with a woman with a trans daughter who's now grown up and out in the world at college. Her mother got involved in trans education in schools in the UK at the time her daughter was transitioning, but then had a break from it for a few years. She's now getting back into this, and has seen how far things have come since she was doing this before. In particular, she's realised she's not well informed when it comes to non-binary issues, and wanted to get better educated about this. We had a long chat, and I've pointed her at good resources on the net.

She also asked me to ask non-binary people I know, on her behalf, if they'd be willing to write something about their experience of being non-binary at school (especially if it's now/recently) - whether they were/are out of the closet there or not.

So I'm asking you folks here (and in other places) whether you'd be willing to do this? If so, you can write as much or as little as you like about living your non-binary experience while at school - though please do not include any information which would identify any specific people or schools - and PM it to me, then I will forward any that I receive on to her, entirely anonymous, and with no reference to this forum.

Thanks in advance for your time, to anyone who's up for doing this - and there's no pressure to want to do this, I understand if thinking about those experiences is the last thing you want to do! But it will be used in the education of people to be more supportive of non-binary school students.
