Title: Did you keep some of your original clothes?
Post by: anjaq on October 15, 2013, 01:37:44 PM
Hi. I just realized today that a fleece west I was wearing was with me from the time before transition, I had it when I was still pretending to be a guy. But it is really comfy and I like it a lot so I still have it. Also some T-Shirts with the logo of the college I went to are in the closet there as well. And I transitioned like 15 years ago. Does anyone else find that some clothes stick with you even as you cross the gender border? How long since you transitioned and what clothes from before do you still own and/or wear?

Hmm, I definitely still have clothes from before. I went full-time back in December of '07 and still have some shirts and pants that I used to wear. I think it mainly has to do with the fact that I haven't fully cleaned out my dresser yet :) Laziness is a bitch, lol!

When I moved out from my parents' place in 2003, I sifted through every item of my belongings and only brought with me clothes obtained post-transition. That was a huge task and was only done because I had to, otherwise I can imagine still owning some stuff pre-transistion.

I kept all military clothing. It's warm in the winter and during summer very durable for working outside in.

Mmmm. I'm on it right now. I can't throw everything since I still don't have enough female clothing, but there are some things I plan to keep. I know there is going to be a sad event in a near future and I will need to keep the appearances. the rest, I haven't been able to use it with the weight loss

What I can't discard is my previous favourite shirt and blazer. It's the biggest memento I had from when I tried to act as manly as possible (nothing to be really proud of), but... That thing was damn expensive and I have used it less than five times.

But damn, my t-shirt stash is freaking big. Today I was wondering what purpose had ironing them if I'm not going to wear them anymore, but I guess I like them. Maybe I can find some of them in girl fit in Threadless.

I did keep some things when I first went full time. But with enough time it's all gone now. Eventually if I was doing something like my flowers outside I had enough girl clothes that I didn't mind getting dirty. That was my motivation for saving things. I have nothing from my past any more.

I wanted to keep some clothes when ever I do go full time, then in 6 or 7 years I'll probably be doing away with it all.

I want to keep some to see just how different my body has gotten, I feel like noticing how the clothes sit in the years to come would be a good judge.

I have a pair of socks my mom made. I can't bear to get rid of them.

Everything else had to go, though. Turns out I had a metric ton of clothes - I think people kept giving them to me, and I only ever wore maybe five sets of my favorites. Ended up tossing out four garbage bags full.

Nice answers. Interesting motivations :) . I noticed that I may actually have more of the xxl clothing leftover from pre-transition (that I kept in part as sleeping t-shirts) than from my first year of transition  ;) - Thats in part because I wore them out, but mostly because they are not fitting anymore as I got a bit bigger and older. I cannot wear belly tees anymore at my age and stature ;) . I kept some of them though as a remembrance of the glorious times when I was still young and transitioned and explored the world around me "as myself". Ah nostalgia :)

Kept a bunch of band tees from the many, many gigs I've been to over the years, they make great sleep/lounging wear...and my Spider-man hoody, as it's friggin awesome!

I've kept all of my male clothes but I've always been a t-shirt and jeans kinda girl so it's more unisex than male anyways. As a guy, I used to wear boxer shorts for underwear now they make great pajama shorts. ;)
