Holy cow! This is so great. It's so refreshing to see a music video with a trans*woman that doesn't end with the guy freaking out with the premise of his attraction to her being a humorous misunderstanding. I would never have liked this song without seeing the awesome video. Good stuff.
I like it a lot! I've heard a few songs by Matt Nathanson, but I didn't know he'd make a video like this.
What do folks think about Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? It featured a very aggressive trans woman and she represented some comic relief, but it's based on a true story and I think that's just her real personality. She even played herself in the movie. Even though the protagonist frequently seems to be put off by her aggressiveness, in the end they seem to get along and become friends.
The reason why I posted this is that I have such mixed feelings.
On the one hand, the male's adoration of the transgender woman comes across as genuine and heartfelt. It normalizes attraction to a trans woman in ways that I haven't seen before.
OTOH, I am tired of the fact that we are overwhelmingly portrayed in media and entertainment as entertainers, sex workers, or off-the-wall. In reality, most of us are serious folks who do ordinary jobs.
Definitely appreciate that he finds out that she's trans, and his reaction is just "meh... whatever" rather than the typical "what what WHAAAAT?!!!!"
Excellent reminder that someone's lack of boobs or a vagina doesn't make them any less of a woman.
Granted, the music was kinda meh, but whatever, I'll take the message in whatever form it can come in. Can't argue with that.
I think this video is catchy and is well done, and it's sweet seeing that he is obviously smitten with the girl. It also makes me want to find a kinks shirt LOL.....
I agree with Suzi that the part about her dancing in a strip club is a bit stereotypical. I guess that they needed a vehicle for him to see that she has no boobs and is OK with it, and the strip club concept came to mind as a way to do that and that's what they ran with.
Yeah yeah, she's a stripper... big freaking deal. The video was meant to put us in a positive light. I'm just happy to see a transsexual being put in entertainment for anything other than a punchline or somebody evil.
BTW Come On Get Higher is the best song ever recorded. The rest of his music is kinda meh, but that song just SCREAMS sex. If I had a guy with that voice singing that song in my ear I'd be his instantly.
I liked it. A lot. I had a smile all the way through it. Very romantic. (And a cute guy, too!)
Music is very catchy, very cool. Not something I'd listen to 24/7, but still it's good.
Given that we are seen as sex workers/strippers and perhaps a bit unstable or even crazy by much of the population...I'd work on the stable and crazy image first too.
Very happy with what I saw.
:)
Awwww this is so cute
