Title: This family acceptance thing is weird.
Post by: JessMo on October 26, 2013, 09:33:30 PM
I came out to my parents! Separately, but both were supportive. I live far away and traveled here this weekend to talk more since my revelation last week. Since then they've joined a support group for parents, my mother contacted her own therapist, and they've generally been supportive but confused.  Tonight they asked me "now what?" And I didn't really know what to say. They're fabulous parents. I am absurdly lucky to have them. They WILL require some adjustment period (mom more so than dad I think) but I feel they'll be fine. For the record they were both very surprised, I'm mid-thirties with two young boys, a girlfriend, and pretty androgenous (in my eyes at least) for much of my life.

What should I expect to go through regarding my relationship with my parents?  Silly question, I know. What advice or experiences could you share?

And I have my first real endo appointment on Tuesday with Dr O'Connor in NJ!  I AM THRILLED!  OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!

Did I mention my appointment? :D :D
