Hey all,
I have been doing research on Prometrium/Bio identical progesterone with regards to breast and body development. I know this topic comes up a lot, and many have their opinions about the use of progesterone in MTF HRT(Safety, side effects, ect.). But in reading everything I can find about progesterone, its use in various forms of HRT/issues, it seems progesterone is needed for a healthy balance in the body.
From what I have read, progesterone balances estrogen. Too much of any hormone can cause problems, and estrogen dominance seems to have some serious issues. Although progesterone is primarily a hormone involved in menstruation & pregnancy, it seems to have other uses in the body.
Granted, most of this information is about the hormone balance of genetic females, but shouldn't it carry over to us as well? We are basically flipping our endocrine system to induce the secondary sex characteristics of females. But by only lowering T & raising E to female levels, aren't we creating a permanent state of estrogen dominance? It seems to me that progesterone should be used to balance/oppose too much estrogen and its negative effects.
Although the use of progesterone has its share of side effects & risks, estrogen dominance seems to have just as many serious negative effects on the body and mind. ???
Here is a link to a description of the way progesterone balances estrogen in the body.
