Imprisoned documents leaker Chelsea Manning says she'll go to court, if necessary, to receive treatment for gender identity disorder, also known as gender dysphoria...

The military has said it does not provide treatment for gender dysphoria.

Manning is serving a 35-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, for sending reams of classified information to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks...

How cruel is this?  They are stopping her from transitioning

Unfortunately true. My insurance is under Tricare, from my father, who is an air force colonel. For both active duty and dependents, Tricare fully covers all procedures for sex reassignment, including hormones, counselling, SRS, even some cosmetic procedures, to match the chosen gender.
The catch: coverage is only for intersexed people.

Fortunately, my doctors are being smart about this and are disguising what they're actually providing,  with a degree of truth. Things like "general psychiatry" and "hormonal imbalance" aren't necessarily false, but aren't the whole truth either.

Yeah, that's a hard one. But what else would you expect? The military doesn't allow transgendered people in as it is, so why would they fund a military prisoner?

My insurance does not cover transition procedures, and I have not committed treason to my country!

Like many of us here, I am saving monies for SRS and voice surgery, and paying for my HRT out my own pocket...

The convict Manning has put the life of many good people in jeopardy.... I cannot find any sympathy in my heart

I believe gender dysphoria is a neurological intersex condition.  More and more doctors are seeing it that way too.

I got a mammogram in early 2012 with the ICD code for "gynecomastia."
