Title: Youtube Subscriptions?
Post by: King Malachite on November 01, 2013, 08:53:16 PM
Just curious to see how many other guys here subscribe to other transguys/ftm collab channels on Youtube.  If so, what determines the people/collab channels you subscribe to?  Are there particular things you look for or that interests you about that guy/collab channel that makes you want to subscribe?  How many videos do you typically watch from that person/collab channel until you decide you want to subscribe to them?  Are there any circumstances where you may unsubscribe from them (ex. Like not posting in over a year)?

Typically, I subscribe to guys who are similar to me or that their personality just catches my attention.  Of course, there are always outliers but when I actually think about it, it can be hard for me to figure out what exactly it is about a guy that makes me want to subscribe to them.  Here are some of the things that may influence my decision to subscribe:

-Seeing a guy that's about my build (which is very rare to see on Youtube), especially when they have top surgery.

-Transmen of color

-American (U.S) transmen (no offense to non-American/ U.S transmen but it can get pretty triggering for me to see guys talk about getting their surgeries covered by the NHS/government.   Even though no system is perfect and there are drawbacks to each, I feel I could relate more to a transguy in the U.S. where the struggles would be similar. I am subscribed to 3 Canadian transmen for other reasons though.  I'll leave it at that so I won't have an angry mob coming at me.)

-Southern U.S. transguys since I'm in the south.

-Trans guys from around ages 15 to 22....especially those that are in no position to transition since they are living with their parents that might object.

-Christian transmen (extremely hard to find on Youtube)

-Transmen that get top surgery with no hormones yet still present as a female (extremely hard to find too)

-Guys that are on Susans

-Trans guys that are into video games, cosplay, and anime.

-Single transmen with no dependents

-Transmen that make talk about topics that interests me.

- Pre-T guys/ Guys that still live as a female

-Guys that are just starting out on their journey

-Guys that have had weight loss surgery (I may have to take that road myself so it helps to see other guys who have been through that as well.  They are extremely hard to find too.)

-Guys that don't have music playing in the background, especially if it's so loud that I can't hear them.  I can't stand that. No offense, but if I want to listen to music, then I'll click on the search box above and type in the song I want to listen to.  I don't knock a guy for doing that and people are free to play whatever they want to when making a video but for me personally, I'd just have to skip over it.

-A guy who seems to post videos often and tries to interact others as much as they can.

-Hair....yes I have subscribed to two trans guys before simply because I liked their hair....

I have subscribed to 3 trans collab channels:  two of them because another guy I subscribed to was on there and the other two because it was was a trans POC collab channel.  Sadly 2 out of the 3 channels aren't active anymore.
Of course, there are always outliars.

I rarely unsubscribe from people even though I'm seriously considering doing that.  A lot of the guys I subscribe to haven't posted in over a year and even worse, they took their videos down.  It could be because they wanted to go totally stealth and I have no problems with that, or even they are just super busy.  I still keep them subscribed in the hope they post again.
On average, it takes me about 2-4 videos before I decide to subscribe to someone.

Currently, I am subscribed to 23 transmen.  About 90 percent of them don't post often anymore so it's time for me to add to the list.  In the meantime, I'd like to hear about the type of guys you subscribe to.  I'm sure the list probably isn't as strict as mine LOL.

i would also like to see more ftm youtubes in which they are still presenting as female.  Usually You only see once they are presenting as male...would be inspiring to see the full transition from beginning to end.

No subscriptions. It is too much like if not worse than facebook.  But then, I don't follow blogs either.

I used to follow a load of guys, didn't always watch everyone's videos depending on how bored I was at the time, but lately I can't watch any because where I live had blocked all video streaming sites on the wifi.

Which reminds me that I need to make a video now that I'm back at my parents for a few days.

If I subscribe to anyone on YouTube, transman or not, it's because they are entertaining enough for to hold my attention through a video.  Right now the only transman I'm subscribed to is uppercaseChase.  Sadly that's because he's a bit of a train wreck and I want to see if it gets better or worse for him.

I use to upload videos myself, but it's been a very long time.  Perhaps I'll make an update now as I've gotten top surgery.

I have about the same things I look for, except for build, I like seeing guys of all sizes. Makes me feel a little more knowledgable to the struggles guys bigger and smaller than me can have so I can try to relate more when I try and give advice here on Susan's or elsewhere.
I ended up unsubscribing from collab channels simply because I can't check my YouTube enough when a channel uploads a video a day. I've got pewdiepie's billions of videos to contend with in my subscriptions XD

You said Christian transmen are hard to find, does that mean you're subscribed to one or two? Mind telling me who they are? I'd love to follow some Christian guys. Same for southern men, I'd love to follow some of them too. (Both of these things are awesome since I'm a Christian southerner myself.)

I know that's right.  High five on that one!

That's understandable.  I only look at the blogs of guys who have had their bottom surgery.

Lol I love your honesty, Squirrel698.  I'm not subscribed to him, but I do like to check in on his page often to see what he's up to.  Speaking of which, I'm going to visit his page now to see what his new updates are.  I also subscribe to guys that hold my attention for whatever reason, even if they don't fit any of my criteria above.

I have three Christian trans guys that I subscribed to, but sadly one of them was one of the people that just removed everything which really bummed me.  I just looked and the one southern guy I was following removed all of their videos too.  >.>    Nevertheless, I'll drop you a pm and give you the channel's names.  :)

I forgot to add that I also look for guys who are on androgel or androderm since I'm considering doing one or the other (probably the gel).  It's not that it's super rare to find them, though it can be difficult, but the thing is many guys switch from the gel/patch to the shots (though i can understand why they would do that).  What I would like to see are guy's changes with nothing but the gel or patch from the beginning of their transition.

I also look for guys that have horrible coming out stories from religious family because I know when I come out to my religious family, it's not going to be pretty.

Was with someone last week, he asked me, "what is this youtube thing, is this like a cult". LOL. I didn't discuss susan's with him. Ah yes the cult of youtube. I am on "It's a Man's World FTM1" which I hate the name of. I think a lot of the guys are from the UK, but it is mostly older guys (by this it is over 35). I used to watch this quite a lot but I don't as much since I am on it, except for if there is a topic I need to do. Then sometimes I listen to the other videos.

I am subscribed to 60+ guys but in reality, they aren't producing hundreds of videos a week. Some of them are FB friends or on other groups I'm on. The people I am interested in do what to me seem like interesting, thoughtful videos. Some of them I "discovered" watched a few and then never watched again, and some I added since planning top surgery. A lot of them went to Dr. Garramone, so I watched their surgery videos. I don't have topics but many of them, but not even close to all, are older guys.

Hey, I thought you were a familiar face, I am subscribed to your personal channel! I have followed you pretty much from the beginning, and I always enjoyed your videos.

Anyway I don't have particular criteria in choosing my subscriptions. If i find an interesting title I watch the video, and if at the end of it I think the guy is smart and not too boring and has interesting ideas I subscribe.
In general I tend to prefer people in their first 20s who still live with unsupportive families and who are still at the beginning of their transitions, just because I can relate better.
I can't stand crappy audio, or background loud noises, or 15 minutes long videos of talking on...

In Dr G's office familiar?
Thanks. Lousy audio is a turn off right away to me as well.

I've seen that collab channel a few times.  I must admit that I don't like the name of it but a lot of the guys there do offer a lot of great information according to their expriences!

Yay!  I'm not the only one with that type of preference, though I don't mind the longer videos (as long as they stay on subject and don't stammer or take long pauses) because oftentimes, I like to have background noise if I'm doing something else like playing video games or washing dishes.  Yeah loud background noises or horrible audio in their background is a deal breaker for me.  The only time I didn't mind was in one video where a guy had soft jazz playing in the background, but it kind of suited his personality.
