Title: United Kingdom FFS - End of the road.
Post by: SRat on November 06, 2013, 04:55:45 PM
Hey peeps, one of my first posts here, so may I say hello to you all - my name is Sarah and I'm looking for a FFS surgeon in the UK. So far all I have come across is Dr Keith Altman, but yet have seen so few pictures. I was just wondering if anybody else had seen him for surgery and what were your expectations, and what were your results? I really wanted to go with Dr Di Maggio, but they suggested I take a friend/family with me whilst I recuperate, but at the moment, it is difficult for friends to take time off work, and my family do not support what I am doing.
Any replies would be most appreciated.
Cheers.
Sarah

Hi Sarah, Welcome to Susan's. Sadly, I have no input for you.

Thank you so much! May I ask of your experiences with FFS and who did you two see? x

The FFS I had was rhinoplasty and forehead contouring. It was a while back and the surgeon has since retired. I had some more recent soft-tissue cosmetic work done by Chris Inglefield. He's not cheap and I don't believe he has done much forehead work. However, he did lower-face work on Paris Lees.

Hi Sarah. When I was looking for a surgeon in the UK I came across Dr Brian Musgrove of Manchester. He has been doing FFS for as long as Dr. O in the States, Dr. Van Deussen in Belgium and Dr. Sopran in Thailand. Sadly I could not afford his prices even though they where far the cheaper than the first two I mentioned. I had several consultations with the Facial Team in Spain, but they are so expensive. In the end I went to Mexico, to Dr Cardenas. You can read what Ive had done somewhere on this site. I am still waiting for the swelling to go [it takes up to a year], my first thoughts are maybe he was a bit conservative, but I have to wait. I had quite a lot done and it cost me 10 thousand pounds, which was about half of what all the others quoted. I went by myself, and also made the mistake of flying direct to Guadalajara, whereas it would of been much cheaper to get a deal, and fly to Cacun, and then taken an internal flight to Guadalajara. Good luck.

Hi,
I have never seen much good said about the UK based surgeons who probably just don't operate enough compared to the real FFS specialists. However if you don't want to go too far, I suggest you also look uo Bart Van de Ven in Belgium.
I did my FFS with him and can only say he transformed a sow's ear ie. a very, very masculine face,  into something far far more presentable, enough in any case to insure that I am no longer ever misgendered on the basis of my appearance.
Wishing you all the best.
Donna

QuoteDear Sarah,....Dr. Di Maggio is an smart choice. Several girls went alone to Argentina to do theirs surgeries. Cheers.
Samantha.
Hi Samantha. Sorry to disagree but if Dr. Di Maggio specifically suggests Sarah to travel with her family or friends, I don't think it would be smart to do otherwise. He might have some good reasons that we don't know. He used to have an assistant who cared after patients but I think she doesn't work for him anymore so this could be a plausible reason..... It might be more reassuring for him to ask people to travel with some company now.... but I'm just guessing here

Many thanks for all your replies.
I saw Dr Keith Altman and he had a lovely, honest manner.
I have seen some of his pictures and various others of FFS around the net, and haven't seen anything as good as Dr Di Maggio.
I was wondering if people could point me towards others on the forum who have gone abroad and had surgery with him.
My Mum won't have 'anything to do' with surgery overseas as she sees it as dangerous, despite my reassurances. Perhaps if I spoke to a
few people on here about their experiences she will change her mind....
