Hello guys and dolls, and welcome to Nero's Pointless Poll of the Day!
What's your favorite soap (or at least the one you watch)?
My first soap was The Young and the Restless, because my mom watched it, and I was glued to the screen because Heather Tom was adorable. And it was immediately followed by the Bold and the Beautiful, so naturally I ended up watching that.
Then, my buddy Ryan coerced me into watching Days of our Lives because he had a thing for this Carrie character. I was bored out of my gourd until Stephano made his entrance. Now, finally! A real man on a soap opera! (Not to mention that Sammie was beyond adorable) Every other man on the soaps is a flimsy, spineless, pretty boy whose only purpose is to parade around shirtless on the screen and make women drool. Not Stephano. I especially related to his unrequited love for Marlena, the woman who despised him. Finally, a soap man I could relate to!
When they killed him off, the show was no longer worth watching.
Now, I occasionally tune in to The Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful for my mother's sake.
Which soap do you tune into? If you watch more than one, vote for your favorite. If you're not American, still share your favorite soap.
Nero
I watch several soap operas. None of them American.
What are soaps like in your neck of the woods?
I've often wondered who watches these things. Reallly.
I've never been able to sit through more than just a few minutes and this has been forced upon me.
;)
Cindi
Ok, added another option - I watch soaps, though not American ones.

I assume they are similar to every soap opera. Unrelenting weeping, dramatic cries, the yelling & screaming, the slaps on both cheeks, the bad, sexy woman who steals the man of the good girl. The poor girl becoming suddenly rich because she inherits millions from her long lost mother who gave her up for adoption when she was filthy & poor. The usual Nero. Just in Spanish. ;)
Yeah... I love soaps.
Coronation street, Emerdale and East Enders (all British)
Coronation Street introduces a TS (MTF) Character into the series many years ago now, the storylines where quite good.

Buffy
interesting character. After all, what could possibly be more soap worthy than the drama and struggles of a transperson?
Since I work a daytime job, I don't watch any soaps.
Days of Our Lives was really slipping the last few years, but now that the Dimeras are back and so am I. Used to watch All My Children but I can't stand the new Greenlee so I'm done with that.
Been watching soaps since I was nine... i'm addicted. It is like crack.

My very favorite:
As the world turns, but I also like and watch
Days of our lives and
All my children. I love Susan Lucci.
tink :icon_chick:
I've been watching Coronation Street since as far back as I can remember. I even have the very first episode on tape.

C'mon Melissa, TIVO!!! Can't miss good tv with Tivo :)
I don't actually watch a lot of television but my ex, who is from England, got me hooked on both Eastenders and Footballers Wives. I don't think FW qualifies as a soap, but Eastenders does right? I know we have Englanders on here, is that a soap. The only problem is that BBS America is like 4 years behind what you get in England so we're always in the dark.
all my children. i loved all the lesbian episodes they had last year... ;)
It isn't just soaps-- I never even watch any television at all.
I watch 2 soaps
The young and the restless
Bold and Beautiful
I prefer Zest. ;)
Irish Spring is good, too.
Hey King Malachite (Zest) my favorite bar of soap nothing like puns
and
LordKAT (Irish Spring)
I guess your soaps get quite sudsy.

Lol yup and I love my suds!
I liked the Days of Our Lives Episodes in which John de Lancie played Eugene Bradford. They involved time machines and androids, rather colourful ingredients for daytime soaps. I used to watch Loving and even went to see Roya Megnot, who played Ava Rescott, while she was on a tour.
In the UK, I sometimes watch Emmerdale. My favourite episodes by far were the two that were supposed to cover Debbie Dingle and Pete Barton's wedding. In the run up to the wedding, Debbie's father, the scary (but gorgeous in an ugly sort of way) and appropriately named Cain Dingle imprisons another suitor, Petes's brother Ross, in a van dangling over the edge of a cliff above a quarry lake. He manages to escape but falls into the lake. In the meantime, Chrissie, who has discovered that her husband Robert is gay, has a row with him and trying to damage his car, causes a fire and explosion that shoots down a helicopter. The helicopter crashes into the wedding party, killing off a large percentage of the characters. While staggering away from the wreckage, soot-covered Pete Barton meets his sodden brother Ross and beats him so severely that he thinks he has killed him. He buries his brother in a shallow grave in the woods, as brothers do. He feels a pang of conscience, though, and confesses to his parents. When they go to the gravesite, though, Ross' body is missing! He had recovered consciousness, dug himself out and staggered to the road where good Samaritans picked him up and took him to a hospital. All the fault of a gay man getting married! (Just kidding.) I enjoyed the episodes so much that when they were repeated, I recorded them. In general, though, I only watch Emmerdale if I have been shopping and want to sit down for a rest.
As a child, I watched the first episodes of Coronation Street with my family but I only watch it now if I am too lazy to stand up after Emmerdale finishes.
I used to watch the Australian soap Home and Away but stopped after the funny characters Lance Smart and Martin Dibble were axed. If I recall correctly, Martin caused mayhem while he was exploring a tank but still left to join the army.
Days of our lives - My soul mate and I would spend a little time with this soap (since the 80's), always thought Victor was just so evil...
