Can anyone recommend a therapist in the mid-Atlantic region? I'm stuck in the abominable hell hole of (eastern) West Virginia for now, since there's almost certainly nothing in state I'd be OK with driving to any of the surrounding states like Virginia, Maryland (Hopkins?) or Pennsylvania.
I already have a psychiatrist (M.D., Ph. D.) locally, but I don't really feel comfortable talking to him about this. It's a long story, but I'm not really conflicted about the whole thing anymore and I know where I want to go, but I need someone who will recommend/prescribe hormones after a single consultation or who is OK with phone sessions - considering I'm probably going to have to drive 4 hours in any direction to get there.
I did online therapy. I'm in MD and the therapist I use is based in NC. It was much easier for me than talking in person to a therapist due to social issues. I had already decided that I was ready to move forward and transition before starting with therapy. It took roughly 5-6 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart before she wrote me a letter recommending HRT. I think the amount of sessions was to make sure I was stable and understood the effects of what I was asking. I've now been on HRT for 3 months. The whole process with therapy started in February for me.
Well I'm sorry it's hard to find one in WV. I had several in the Norfolk area but that's probably too far. I would have to say your best bet would be DC or Harrisburg. Maybe Richmond or Pittsburgh depending how far north or sough you are.
