Title: Hormone plan in place but have questions
Post by: Sabrina on November 16, 2013, 12:11:47 PM
Provided everything in goes well with getting my "letter" next week, my doctor is ready to prescribe hormones. He said I would be starting on estradiol, spironolactone, and a baby aspirin. He also mentioned some possible others as well. What could those possible other be? Has anyone had experience with these particular medications and what should I expect? I tried looking up the names and got a bunch of medical jargon which was kind of confusing. I'm basically looking for relatively easy to understand information so I can bring it up to my therapist before I see my doctor. Thanks a bunch!

Relatively easy is a relative term!  Here's some light reading: https://www.susans.org/wiki/Category:Hormone_replacement_therapy

Maybe he's thinking of a possible blood thinner? Hope things go well next week.  Hugs, Devlyn

Estradiol is the estrogen. Like I am on depo estradiol cypionate. do to form rules i cant tell you dosages, but I take one shot every 2 weeks. Spironolactone, or as we say, spiro is a testosterone blockee to let the estrogen interact with the receptors easier and not have to fight. :) And aspirin, who knows about that one. Aspirin does thin the blood down, so make sure you are not on any blood thinners as this could be dangerous for you but I am sure you endocrinologist will check that. The injectables are considered to be safer than pills because it doesn't get digested and then processed by the liver. One thing I like about the shots is I take a shot, and forget about it for two weeks. I know that if it is pay day, it is my shot day. :)

I appreciate the feedback. I now have a better idea of what to expect.

:) anytime. I hope your tests go well, and soon, welcome to the family of HRT'iers. :) It is very magical what happens not only on the outside, but mentally in the mind.

I got my tests back and all appears fine. I got sent a bunch of numbers next to some scientific sounding words. I have no idea what they all mean but for the most part, everything seems within normal ranges. I have an appointment with my doctor next week and since both of us got my letter today, I should be starting HRT soon.
