Title: FTM haircut+Tips?
Post by: adam-plasmatic on November 17, 2013, 05:04:05 PM
Hey guys! It's me again! Well, I planned on getting a fohawk but I was told that it would make me look more lesbian than FTM so any good haircuts that will help me pass? This is me currently. (excuse the bad selfie I took a school Haha.) Any good tips for me to pass better? Thanks!

Just a tip in my personal opinion, I think people pass better with natural hair colours :) It's hard to tell what your face really looks like but I think a more shorter version of the hairstyle you have now would be alright.

I just spent like ten minutes typing a reply and the internet ate it :(

Anyway. Your hair looks kind of similar to mine before I got it cut last so I'll tell you what I did. I got it cut really short on the back and sides so it's completely off my ears and neck, I also use a strong pomade to part my hair on one side and kind of sweep my hair off my forehead.

I also have an unnatural hair color (purple for me) and I'd agree that it doesn't help me pass, but I love it enough to keep it anyway.

I don't know if a fauxhawk would be feminizing but a mohawk probably would be because it would show off the shape of your head. If your head is more round than square it will look feminine. Also mohawks seem to be very popular with women right now. Most of the women in my line of work seem to have mohawks right now.

Edit: And one other thing I meant to say. I think my haircut works well, but I still don't usually pass, hopefully for other reasons.  It does make me feel a lot more like a guy, and I think that counts for a lot in terms of my self image.

I  too have  my hair dyed   an unnatural  color...  not sure if it helps or hinders my passing  but I  dig crazy colors  so that's  what's  up.  personally, I  appreciate the hawk so I  go with the mo  instead of the  faux.  Mohawks  are masculine,  in my opinion.  rock what makes you comfortable.

Yeah I have a very round face so I don't really know what to do with my hair lol. :(

Yeah, I noticed the funky colours bring out the feminine side a bit more. Any specific hairstyles I could try?

If I worked in your high school, I'd probably think you were a genderqueer kid. I mean if I didn't know you and had to go by appearance.

I feel like it boils down more to the cut then the color when it comes to passing. For awhile my hair was purple on top and blonde on the sides, and I passed just fine. I tend to keep it medium to long on top and short on the sides and back.

Also, you could look up hairstyles that are popular for men this year. If you find a style you like you can take the picture to a salon or possibly barber and ask them to cut your hair like that.
